Two years after a bundle of cocaine was found inside the White House during Joe Biden's term as president, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has this week announced a major update to the case.
The clear plastic bag of drugs was discovered in July 2023 by a member of the US Secret Service conducting routine patrol, with the powder inside weighing less than a gram.
Donald Trump later went on to accuse either former Democratic leader Biden - who was visiting family in Maryland at the time - or his son Hunter of having left the Class A substance at the property.

Biden's team later branded Trump's accusations 'incredibly irresponsible'.

In the midst of their insult-hurling match, the presidential residence was subsequently evacuated and an initial investigation launched.
Yielding no forensic evidence, however, and being that the White House is staffed by over 500 individuals, authorities failed to pin the drugs on one individual, and the investigation was closed 11 days later.

The discovery also came less than 12 months after the Supreme Court's draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade was leaked to the public.
The latter triggered severe condemnation for Trump, 78, who branded the source of the leak 'slime' at the time.
The father-of-five also demanded that journalists from Politico, who obtained the overturning documents, be jailed until they reveal the source.
Like the former case, however, no individual responsible was ever identified.

However, the FBI has now provided updates on these cases, telling press that both former investigations will now be reopened, and new probes launched.

Dan Bongino, former right-wing podcaster and deputy director of the bureau, shared the news on Twitter, revealing that weekly briefings on the progress of each case will be arranged.
He previously insisted he was in contact with a series of whistleblowers, who allegedly told him that they were 'suspicious' that evidence from the cocaine discovery could 'match a member of the inner Biden circle'.

Also in his announcement, Bongino added that more resources would be plied into the FBI's investigation into pipe bombs that were discovered at the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee in Washington.
Later defused, the weapons had been placed the evening prior to Trump supporters embarking on the 6 January capitol riots, which were spurred by a failure to keep Biden from the White House.
