Look, we all get our words muddled up from time to time but you'd hope it wouldn't happen when you're doing a speech in front of the whole nation.

But that was exactly the case for Elizabeth Warren, the senior United States senator from the state of Massachusetts, when she appeared to accidentally refer to the US president as 'Donald C**t Trump' in a pretty mad video.

The major blunder took place while Warren was speaking on the Senate floor, supporting Sen. Jeff Merkley's marathon speech, which held the floor all night long Tuesday (21 October) and into Wednesday afternoon (22 October).

Merkley's marathon speech centred around disrupting legislative business and protesting the Trump administration's policies as lawmakers struggle to reopen the federal government.

The Oregon Democrat spoke for more than 22 hours, explaining that his filibuster, as the procedural tactic is known, was an effort to sound the alarm on both the government shutdown and Trump, whom he stated was dragging the country 'further into authoritarianism'.

As we say, Warren was supporting her fellow Democrat, but she had a very noticeable slip-up when trying to read Trump’s name - but she very quickly corrected herself.

"Donald c**t Trump is not a king, he will never be a king," she said in the now-viral PBS clip.

It didn't take long for people to rush to social media to share their reactions to the so-called 'Freudian slip' - AKA a mistake in speech, memory, or action that is thought to reveal a hidden, unconscious thought or desire.

One person penned: "Warren: 'Donald C**t Trump is not a king he will never be a king'. Queen!!!"

"She knew what she was doing," joked a second, while a third chimed in: "Her Freudian slip is showing and we love it!"

A fourth gushed: "I always liked Senator Warren!"

"Oh yeah! Love Senator Warren," echoed a fifth, while a sixth declared: "No she had it right the first time."

And a final social media user added: "Lmaaaaaooooooooooo."

The US government shut down at the start of this month (1 October), and it's become the second-longest federal funding lapse in US history.

The two longest shutdowns have both occurred with Trump in office.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told NBC News: "Democrats will do anything except vote to open the government. A useless overnight floor speech that no one watched will do nothing to help the millions of Americans who are missing paychecks, losing out on important benefits, or being otherwise harmed by the [Democrats’] decision to shut down the government over free health care for illegal aliens."

Tyla has reached out to Elizabeth Warren's office and the White House for further comment.
