In a shocking turn of events, Donald Trump and Zohran Mamdani seemed to get on just fine as they met for the first time face-to-face on Friday (21 November).
For those who need a quick catch-up, Democratic socialist Mamdani was elected New York City mayor at the beginning of the month on November 4 and made history for a number of reasons.
Not only did he become the Big Apple's first Muslim mayor, the first of South Asian heritage, and the first born in Africa, at 34, he was also the first Millennial to take on the role, with his wife Rama Duwaji stepping into the position of NYC's first-ever Gen Z first lady at 28.
Now, it's no secret that the political pair aren't exactly the best of friends, and Trump previously even threatened to withhold funding from the city if Mamdani were to be elected.

The Republican leader previously called the new mayor a '100% Communist lunatic' and a 'total nut job,' while Mamdani described himself as 'Donald Trump’s worst nightmare'.
So, you can imagine the shock of literally everyone when the pair were smiling side by side after meeting for the first time since the new mayor was elected.
As per PA, the meeting focused more on their shared goals rather than their combustible differences as they discussed housing affordability and the cost of groceries and utilities.

Doing quite the U-turn, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office: "We’re going to be helping him, to make everybody’s dream come true, having a strong and very safe New York."
He later added: “I think he is going to surprise some conservative people, actually."
While Mamdani, who's set to take office in January, said: "What I really appreciate about the President is that the meeting that we had focused not on places of disagreement, which there are many, and also focused on the shared purpose that we have in serving New Yorkers".
Photographs which were released after the meeting showed Trump and Mamdani shaking hands and smiling, which is not quite the outcome the world had expected.

However, some social media users have pointed out that while the Republican leader has a huge smile on his face, the NYC mayor is perhaps reigning it in and not smiling as much as he usually does.
Mamdani is rarely seen without a wide grin on his face, so his subtle smile was actual quite mellow in comparison to usual - something that fans of the Democratic socialist quickly picked up on.
One Twitter user joked: "I have never seen Trump smile this much or even in this manner in my life. What version of charisma is Mamdani running on because I want to update my own software."

While a second compared the two, adding: "Most Trump has ever smiled and least Mamdani has ever smiled LOL."
And a third agreed: "I think it’s telling that Mamdani always has a big beaming smile with whoever he’s posing with. Except Trump. Meanwhile, Trump is smiling like a fanboy in every shot. He played him like a fiddle."
"Lmaoooooo yo i’ve never seen trump smile that much like he has with Mamdani," joked a fourth.
A fifth chimed in with: "I gotta say, pictures are worth a thousand words but this one just confirms that Mamdani could literally charm the skin off a snake. I mean when has Trump ever smiled with his teeth?"

And a sixth added: "I’ve maybe only seen him smile the way he smiled at Zohran Mamdani for like, 3 other people ever."
