Sir Keir Starmer was left in an awkward position on Monday (July 28) when the American president erupted into a brutal rant about the Mayor of London.

For those not up to speed with Donald Trump’s whereabouts, he’s currently in Scotland and officially opened his new golf course in Aberdeenshire today (July 29).

The Republican first touched down in the UK over the weekend and on Monday he sat down with the British Prime Minister, and his wife, Victoria Starmer, at his Turnberry golf resort in South Ayrshire.

Serious discussions between the political leaders included the EU-US trade deal, Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine and the starvation crisis in Gaza.

And at one point, the conversation during a press conference turned to London and whether Trump would be interested in paying the English capital a visit.

Speaking to reporters, he didn’t mince his words as he said: “I’m not a fan of your mayor."

He bluntly added: “I think he’s done a terrible job, the Mayor of London … a nasty person.”

Laughing nervously, Starmer quickly intervened to say: “He’s a friend of mine, actually.”

However, Trump continued and went on to add: “I think he’s done a terrible job. But I would certainly visit London.”

In response to comments made by Trump, a spokesperson for the Mayor told the media: “Sadiq is delighted that President Trump wants to come to the greatest city in the world.

“He’d see how our diversity makes us stronger, not weaker; richer, not poorer.”

They hit back with: “Perhaps these are the reasons why a record number of Americans have applied for British citizenship under his presidency.”

And this is not the first time that the US president has hit out at the mayor, as he previously branded him a ‘stone cold loser’ and brutally challenged him to an IQ test.

And Sir Sadiq evidently isn’t the biggest fan of Trump either, previously describing him as ‘a poster boy for racists.’

After the latest spat unfolded, the video of the awkward moment involving Starmer and Trump has done the rounds on social media.

In the comments of one TikTok clip of the moment, people have made their feelings clear - and they’re all saying the same thing.

A number of social media users have pointed out how ‘no one stands up to Trump,’ insisting that Starmer should have said more.

One person quipped: “I wish SOMEONE would stand up to him! Just once!” and a second wrote: “It’s crazy everyone just lets him run his mouth.”

A third simply questioned: “WHY does NOONE stand up to him???” and a fourth asked: “Why is Starmer laughing at this and allowing him to carry on insulting British leaders?”

“Why do other leaders put up with this?!?,” wrote someone else.

Another person quipped: “I don't understand why nobody is holding him accountable? like why just sit there with an odd look on your face?”

And someone else added: “Why didn’t Starmer just cut him off by saying 'I don’t really think the US president needs to have an opinion on the mayor of London.' What has happened to the British straight talking?”
