Donald Trump has savagely blunt reply when asked if own vice president J.D Vance could run for president

The 78-year-old opened up about who could be the 2028 Republican presidential nominee

Donald Trump has shared his thoughts on who the 2028 Republican presidential nominee could be.

The 78-year-old Republican leader has opened up about whether or not he'll endorse his vice president, J.D. Vance, 40, for president in 2028.

On Monday (10 February), Trump spoke on Fox News’ Special Report to discuss the first three weeks of his second term when he was asked if he could see Vance as his successor in three years' time.

Trump firmly responded 'No' before adding: "But he's very capable. I mean, I don't think that it, you know, I think you have a lot of very capable people. So far, I think he's doing a fantastic job. It's too early. We’re just starting."

The interviewer then followed up: "But by the time you get to the midterms, he's going to be looking for an endorsement."

"Yeah," Trump replied. "A lot of people have said that this has been the greatest opening, almost three weeks, in the history of the presidency."

"We've done so much, and we really had to cause they have really, what they've done to our country is so sad. It's so sad."

He added: "We're going to be bigger, better and stronger than ever before."

His remarks come after he sparked outrage online following one particular 'cringe' gesture he made at the Super Bowl.

During the national anthem, the president could be seen doing a salute while others around him, including his daughter Ivanka, put their right hand over their heart.

According to The Independent, the US code even states that military personnel should 'give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note', while others should 'face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart' - however, Trump has never served in the military.

Viewers at home have since rushed to social media to share their thoughts on Trump doing the salute at the Super Bowl, with

one Instagram user wondering: "Why is he saluting if he was never in the military?"

"Saluting?? Wasn’t he a draft dodger??" asked a second, while another penned: "He is not military. He should not be saluting. Period."

Regarding his history with the military, Trump received military draft deferments five times, once for bad feet and four times for college.

By the age of 22, the businessman had avoided the military draft four times in order to complete his college education at the University of Pennsylvania.

In the spring of 1968, he received a diagnosis that landed him a fifth draft deferment that would keep him out of the Vietnam war which saw more than 58,000 US fatalities.

Trump was also diagnosed with bone spurs on his feet, which the NHS describes as 'bony lumps that grow on the bones' - making him seemingly unfit for service.
