Donald Trump conspiracy theory could explain viral video of him falling up the stairs

The speculation has been circling about on social media for years now

It's safe to say that, when it comes to the world's leaders, there are seemingly endless amounts of conspiracy theories and bizarre speculation doing the rounds on social media.

And it's clear that United States president, Donald Trump, is of no exception as he's found himself on multiple occasions now at the heart of a number of conspiracies including his bizarre leg bulge and - of course - the whole Melania Trump 'body double' frenzy.

And the latest theory to catch traction online seeks to explain the now-viral video of the 78-year-old Republican falling on Sunday (8 June) as he ascended the staircase to Air Force One.

Trump was heading at the time to Camp David, a federal government retreat in the wilderness of Maryland, to meet with military leaders over the possibility of invoking the Insurrection Act in response to the protests, which began on Friday (6 June), Los Angeles after it had emerged that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers were carrying out raids in areas of the city with prominent Latino populations.

Prior to take off, however, Trump could be seen climbing up the stairs to the aircraft following a brief conference with several reporters over the high-stakes matter. During his ascension, however, the President miscalculated his footing and tripped over.

Refusing to lose face, Trump attempted to brush over the unfortunate mishap by continuing to climb up to the plane's door and not looking back.

The ordeal, unsurprisingly, went viral on social media especially given Trump's relentless mocking remarks about former president Joe Biden and the several times he too tripped on public appearances.

But it's also sparked a resurfaced conspiracy theory that Trump allegedly has 'bathmophobia' - AKA the fear of stairs.

One X user speculated: "Look through Trump's history and he has a very obvious fear of stairs - holding hands with world leaders even going down slight slopes. You know this was his absolute worst nightmare that he's been dreading being caught on tape for a decade."

Another declared: "Trump looks more afraid of the stairs than he was of the guy who shot a gun at his rally. That's weird."

"Tbh it's one of the few things about Trump that makes him sympathetic, apparently he's terrified of stairs," quipped a third.

Another X user echoed: "Trump tripping on stairs doesn’t prove he’s unwell it proves he’s an old man who is notoriously afraid of stairs."

Understandably, such theories have not yet been publicly confirmed by Trump nor the White House but there have been a number of instances in the past where theorists were convinced of such an alleged phobia.

Back in his first term as president in 2017, Trump famously grabbed UK prime minister at the time Theresa May's hand at they walked over a ramp at the White House.

This prompted the rumour that he was scared of ramps with outlets like The Telegraph, who quoted government sources in Washington DC, and Politico who quoted a British government source adding further dimensions to the theory.

However, May's spokeswoman - as quoted in The Times - appeared to back up the notion that it was the ramp, and not a sudden rush of emotion, that prompted the hand holding.

"They were walking along. There was an unseen ramp. He put out his hand. She took it," they said.

Obviously, there's no way to prove this theory without any official statement but it's clear the internet has had fun running wild with it!
