If the 2024 Paris Olympics have taught us anything, it's that competitive sports aren't all fun and games - in fact, serious injuries are very likely.

With the iconic competition in full swing and medals being won left, right and centre, tensions are high for athletes to put on a winning performance and help lead their country to glory.

Footage has emerged of 24 year old Adil Osmanov, from Moldova, suffering an extremely serious injury at the Olympics.

Competing in the judo 73kg heat, Osmanov won a bronze medal, with France’s Joan-Benjamin Gaba earning silver and Azerbaijan’s Hidayat Heydarov securing gold.

Raising his hands to commend his victory, he fell to his knees and exclaimed with delight.

He then gave a fist pump across his body which led to him crying out in pain, crouching to the ground and clutching his shoulder.

The aftercare seemed to have worked wonders as Osmanov was well enough to collect his medal alongside the silver and gold winners.

He then revealed he had been advised to get shoulder surgery before the Paris Olympics.

He added after his win: "Yes, it was very difficult. And during the warm-up I felt bad, but I’ve had that before - and that’s when I got a medal.

"‘I had no options to back down."

If you're squeamish, look away now:

He also reminisced on memories of his late father, adding: "‘He dreamed of reaching the Olympics himself.

"He did not succeed due to financial impossibility. He dreamed that one of his children would reach the Olympics and get a medal."

Osmanov is not the only athlete to suffer a nasty injury at this year's Olympics.

24-year-old Brazilian gymnast Flávia Saraiva helped lead her team to winning bronze in women's gymnastics after suffering a bloody eye injury while practicing.

When preparing for her Olympics performance on the uneven bars, Saraiva suffered a fall which led to blood pouring from her eyebrow and swelling beneath her eye.

After dramatically falling to the mat, coaches and medics rushed to treat her injuries.

Saraiva then shared that she was left feeling disorientated and was struggling to see out of her right eye.

It emerged that the blow had come from her own knee.

Despite this, she competed for her country and led them to a winning medal.
