A witness has opened up on the tragic moment they saw an Oasis fan fall to his death during the band's reunion concert at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (2 August).

The Mancunian band, fronted by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, has been performing throughout the UK as part of their huge reunion tour, which began in June.

After kicking off the highly-anticipated shows in Cardiff and playing hometown gigs in Manchester, the Oasis Live 25 tour made its way to London for a string of performances.

And Sunday (3 July) marked the end of their first run of five gigs at the capital city venue, as the brothers gear up to head to Edinburgh and Dublin next.

However, Saturday's event came with an unexpected tragedy, as one man died after falling from his seat near the top of stadium.

A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene at the stadium on Saturday after being 'found with injuries consistent with a fall'.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: “A man – aged in his 40s – was found with injuries consistent with a fall.

“He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The stadium was busy and we believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage.

“If you have any information that could help us to confirm what happened, please call 101."

Police and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service were at the scene at around 10.19pm in response to the reports that a man had been injured after falling from a significant height.

According to The Guardian, the man was thought to be sitting in the upper tier of the 90,000-seat stadium.

The Gallagher brothers have since addressed the heartbreaking news in a joint statement they issued on Sunday (3 August).

They said: "We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved."

Someone who witnessed the awful moment told The Sun that they initially thought it was a coat falling, before realising it was a person.

They told the publication: "It was horrific to see I was directly underneath. At first glance I thought it was a coat falling but then I saw the bloke on the concrete.”

While another witness told MailOnline: “It was horrendous. The guy fell from a balcony. Paramedics came rushing over. There was a lot of screaming and shouting.

“It was a big fall. God knows how it happened. It was so tragic. I don’t know how on Earth it happened. It was heartbreaking. He was only young.”

A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium said: “Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London Ambulance Service and the police attended to a concert-goer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall.

“Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers.

“The police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them."
