Angel Lynn's attacker Chay Bowskill has had his jail sentence increased to 12 years, after his attempt to kidnap the 19-year-old left her seriously injured.

The young woman suffered traumatic and severe head injuries and brain damage after falling from the van she had been bundled into by her boyfriend Bowskill.

Originally, Bowskill was sentenced to a total of seven-and-a-half years in prison, and was convicted of coercive and controlling behaviour and perverting the course of justice.

However, Bowskill's sentence has since been increased to 12 years by the Court of Appeal judges as part of a sentencing review.

A statement from the Attorney General's Office confirmed: "A Leicestershire man has received an increased sentence following the kidnapping of Angel Lynn after the Solicitor General Alex Chalk QC MP referred the case to the Court of Appeal."

It continued: "On 26 January 2022, Bowskill was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months' detention at Leicester Crown Court.

"Following the sentencing, the Solicitor General referred Bowskill's sentence to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.

"On 23 March the Court found his original sentence to be unduly lenient and increased his sentence to 12 years' imprisonment."

Following the news of his increased sentence, supporters of Angel Lynn have argued that Bowskill's jail time is still not enough.

"It's still nowhere near long enough," wrote one Twitter user. "What was the original judge thinking with such a low sentence - are these judges ever held accountable for their poor sentencing? Families shouldn't have to appeal for a higher sentence, it should be given in the first place."

A second tweeted: "Glad to see that his sentence has been increased, though it still doesn't seem anywhere near long enough."

"12 years is still not long enough!! " added a third.

Speaking after Wednesday's hearing, the Solicitor General Alex Chalk QC MP said: "Angel Lynn was subjected to prolonged abuse by her partner, Chay Bowskill, which culminated in her suffering devastating and life-changing injuries.

"No sentence can repair the damage caused by the cowardly actions of Bowskill, but I welcome the decision of the court to increase the punishment for his crimes."
