Meghan Markle's half-sister is reportedly suing the Duchess of Sussex for defamation after comments she made during her Oprah Winfrey interview last year.
TMZ claims it has obtained court documents in which Samantha Markle - formerly known as Samantha Grant - accuses Meghan of telling a "rags to riches" story.
One moment in the interview that angered Samantha was Meghan describing herself as an "only child" when she shares the same father, Thomas Markle, with Samantha.

Meghan's half sister was left angered by Meghan’s claims she only changed her surname to Markle after she started dating Prince Harry.
In reference to her childhood, Samantha says Meghan fabricated stories about “growing up in poverty” when heir dad Thomas is said to have paid for Meghan to attend “elite and expensive private schools” and “dance and acting classes”.
Meghan’s lawyer responded to the lawsuit in TMZ's article: “This baseless and absurd lawsuit is just a continuation of a pattern of disturbing behavior. We will give it the minimum attention necessary, which is all it deserves”.

Samantha has been an incredibly critical figure in Meghan’s life ever since the former Suits actress started a relationship with Prince Harry in 2016.
She has made countless television appearances for interviews on Good Morning Britain and more recently GBNews about her half sister.
Samantha published a tell-all book in February 2021, The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister with wild claims about Meghan from her childhood, to her first TV gig on Deal or No Deal and alleged the future royal essentially ghosted her after she started dating Prince Harry.

Meghan addressed the book in a bonus clip from her interview with Oprah, noting that it “would be very hard to ‘tell all’ when you don’t know me.”
She added: “I grew up as an only child, which everyone who grew up around me knows, and I wished I had siblings. I would have loved to have had siblings.”
