Lauren Sánchez makes tearful admission after saying the first all-female space trip ‘wasn’t what she expected’

Sánchez, along with five other female crew members, returned to Earth following their 11-minute journey into space this afternoon (14 April)

It's been a few hours now since the likes of Lauren Sánchez and five other female crew members went up to space and then back down again for a Blue Origin flight.

Sánchez, an Emmy Award-winning journalist and fiancée to Jeff Bezos who owns the space company, was joined on the flight along the likes of Katy Perry, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, CBS Mornings and SiriusXM radio host Gayle King and decorated film producer Kerianne Flynn.

Upon landing back down to Earth after 11 minutes in space, Sánchez, who was also responsible for rounding up the all-female crew of six, made a teary admission saying that the trip 'wasn’t what she expected'.

Gushing about the all-female spaceflight, which Blue Origin has shared was the first one in over 60 years when Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to travel into space on a solo mission aboard the spacecraft Vostok 6, Sánchez beamed that she was 'so proud of this crew'.

"Earth looked so quiet. It was just quiet," she continued, adding it was not what she expected. "I don't think you can describe it. It was quiet but also really alive.

"You look at it and you're like, we're all in this together. That's all I could think about."

Explaining that she feels 'complete and utter joy', Sánchez began to get choked up as she confessed: "I don't cry that often so I didn't expect to be this emotional."

And it wasn't just Sánchez who had an emotional reaction after returning to Mother Earth safe and sound as Perry likewise took a moment to take it all in.

Upon leaving the spacecraft, she took a moment to hold a daisy to the sky before kissing the ground.

She reportedly did this as a sweet tribute to her daughter, Daisy Dove, who she welcomed to the world with actor Orlando Bloom back in 2020.

And as for why she kissed the ground?

Well, the gesture can refer to a literal act of reverence or respect, or figuratively, it can mean to praise someone highly or to show extreme admiration.

So, in this case, it seems like Perry was pretty stoked to have made it to space and back safely as she can now reunite with her daughter and hubby following the exhilarating mission.

Speaking ahead of the mission, Sánchez previously declared: "This flight will undoubtedly prove to be a life-changing experience for each of us, and I’m honoured to be with such an incredible group of explorers.

"Most importantly, I am looking forward to all the women in this crew sharing their story and inspiring future generations to dream big."
