A group of thoughtful kids in Dallas, Texas have been heaped with praise online after they warned a local mum about a ‘strange man’ walking into her house.

In a Reddit post, Alyssa Holt explained that her mother Karen had received a hand-written note from a group of kids who were worried after seeing a man entering her property.

The note, which Alyssa shared online, read: "Ms. Karren we saw a strange man walk in your house, and we would like to know if you are OK. If you are then text my mom. Love the gang."

However, not all was as it seemed, with the whole mix-up leaving internet users in stitches.

The ‘strange man’ was in fact Karen’s ex-husband, who’d come round to help with some DIY issues.

Explaining the blunder, Karen told Newsweek: “Her dad and I are divorced. He came over to help me cover water faucets and do other things to protect against the cold front that was coming in.

"He frequently helps but he always comes in the back door. This time he exited the front door when the kids saw him.”

After seeing the man, the worried young neighbours wrote the note and taped it on her door before knocking.

"I opened the door and saw the kids in the neighbor's yard but I didn't see the note," Karen explained.

"I asked them if they had knocked and they said yes and pointed out the note. When I read the note I walked over to them and told them how kind and thoughtful I thought they were.

"The oldest is about 11 years old and the youngest was probably six."

The woman's daughter posted about the amusing note on Reddit.

Elisabeth Rutledge, the mother of one of the kids who wrote the note, told Newsweek: “I was at home when Susie and the kids came rushing in, concerned about Karen because they saw a 'strange man' walk into her house. They were moving fast they had a plan to write the note and put it on her door.

"But they were out the door again so fast I never saw the note. And then a few minutes later Susie let me know Karen was fine, and Karen texted to send me a picture of the note. Karen was really touched by their concern."

Susie added: “We saw a strange man go into the house and we wanted to make sure Ms. Karen was okay. We knocked on the door but no one answered so we got worried.

"Then we came over here and wrote the note. Then we taped the note on the door and knocked again and she answered."

Reddit users flooded the post with comments, with many finding the whole thing both heartwarming and hilarious.

“This is so great! What a sweet group of kids,” wrote one.

A second echoed: “This is absolutely amazing! These kids have made me so hopeful for this generation’s capacity for kindness and compassion.”

Meanwhile, a third said: “I love everything about this, but the best part is the clear collaborative effort. At least two, maybe three kids worked together to write this note. Great gang of kiddos!”, with a fourth joking: “Should’ve seen when Dad read the note.”
