A Tenerife local has claimed that the missing Brit who disappeared on holiday in Tenerife was spotted 'walking alone' before his disappearance.

Jay Slater, who hails from Lancashire, had been enjoying a holiday on the Spanish island with two friends in the hours before he went missing on 17 June, having flown to the Canaries for a music festival.

He went to the Canary Island with his friend Lucy and another pal, but has been reported missing after he went to stay with people he had met on the holiday after a night out.

Lucy later told police that he'd been on a night out with the group earlier that evening, but had strayed in order to spend time with new people he'd met.

She told the Manchester Evening News that the accommodation of their 'new friends' had been 'in the middle of nowhere', and that Jay had called at around 8.00am the following day to inform her that he was attempting to walk home after being unable to catch a bus.

He told her his phone battery was on one percent and that he needed a drink of water, but 'didn't know where he was'.

His phone then died, with his last location shown as being in ‘the middle of the mountains with nothing around’.

His location was revealed to be in the Rural de Teno Park - or the National Park of Teno - north west of the island.

The Tenerife local named Araceli, who works in the business next to the rental property where Slater was last seen, told the Mirror: "I never saw the missing boy, but I know people saw him walking on his own.

"I saw the two British men who stayed here. They came in for cafe con leche a couple of times. One was aged about 40. The other one was slightly younger.

"The police have spoken to them both [the British men]. They arrived on Saturday and were due to stay until Monday, but they left on Tuesday."

Before the update, a Snapchat video was released of the missing teen before he disappeared showing what he was wearing.

He is seen in a grey t-shirt with green stripes on the shoulders and is carrying a black bag. It's likely this is what he was wearing when he went missing the next morning.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office previously told Tyla: "We are supporting the family of a British man who has been reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities."
