Publication issues statement after 'paying witches to “curse” Charlie Kirk' days before his tragic death

Charlie Kirk was assassinated on 10 September during a student debate in Utah

The magazine that hired Etsy witches to curse Charlie Kirk has released a statement after his death.

Charlie Kirk’s assassination has created shockwaves across the US.

Since then, more and more details have come out about Kirk, and one detail has led to a magazine issuing a statement.

Titled ‘We Paid Some Etsy Witches to Curse Charlie Kirk’, Jezebel published an article on 8 September talking about how they had managed to get hold of witches to hex him.

They summarised the article as: “If the far-right misogynist with a bad haircut wants to villainize independent women, Jezebel is more than happy to be the hag of his nightmares.”

The author wrote as to why they chose Kirk as the victim: “Exhibit A: Charlie Kirk. Maybe it’s his obsession with telling women what to do or his aggressively large head, but the far-right podcaster’s presence is more irritating than most. That’s when I remembered: there’s Etsy.”

The article added: “Are you interested in punishing Kirk for the years of regressive rhetoric he’s shouted at America’s youth and anyone within earshot? Here at Jezebel, we’re about to find out if there’s a spell for that.”

Talking a little about the background of Kirk’s debates online, his Fox News appearances, affiliation with Donald Trump and more, the publication specified that it wasn’t doing it with the intention to ‘cause him harm’.

They simply wanted him to ‘wake up every morning with an inexplicable zit’, or to have his podcast microphone ‘malfunction every time he hits record’.

In the end, they settled on the ‘S*** Your Pants Spell’, which one reviewer claimed 'really worked'.

The author also purchased the ‘MAKE EVERYONE HATE HIM’ spell, the 'POWERFUL HEX SPELL’ and they were promised to see results within 2-3 weeks.

Two days later, Kirk was shot and killed.

Since the news of his death broke, Jezebel has been slammed online, with their article called 'evil' and one X user writing that 'words have consequences'.

Another said: "Let's focus on compassion and understanding, not sensationalism."

To this, Jezebel wrote an editor's note to the top of the article, writing: “This story was published on September 8. Jezebel condemns the shooting of Charlie Kirk in the strongest possible terms. We do not endorse, encourage, or excuse political violence of any kind.”

In a statement to Variety, Josh Jackson, the president of Paste Media Group, and the owner of Jezebel, said: “The article was a tongue-in-cheek exploration of people selling hexes on Etsy, and intended as a satirical response to Charlie Kirk’s rhetoric over the years.

"The writer was very clear that she didn’t want real harm to come to Kirk. What happened today is tragic and becoming all too commonplace, and we condemn this awful act of violence.”

Kirk was a father-of-two, sharing a daughter (born August 2022), and a son (born May 2024) with wife Erika Frantzve.

Kirk, known for years for his popular YouTube debate segment called ‘Change My Mind’, was murdered yesterday (10 September) during a student debate.

The 31-year-old was answering questions with more than 3,000 people in attendance on the campus of Utah Valley University (UVU).

Kirk was sat in a white gazebo and was in the middle of answering a question when a single shot rang out across the space.

According to eyewitnesses, and graphic videos on social media, the bullet hit the conservative through the neck.

Kirk recoiled, dropped his microphone, and his security team rushed to his aid while students fled.

While the world waited to hear about his condition as he was rushed to hospital, Donald Trump later confirmed that he had died.
