Line Of Duty star Martin Compston might be best known for playing English copper, Steve Arnott.

But whenever fans hear the actor's real accent, they always seem to be taken aback.

Yep, in case you didn't realise, Martin, 36, is actually Scottish...as fans realised when he appeared in a video for Soccer Aid at the weekend, ahead of season 6 airing.

Teasing the actor after he had been filmed encouraging fans to buy tickets for a match, in his thick Scottish accent, someone behind the scenes could be heard shouting: "Cut, one more time Martin, but in your real voice this time please..."

"This is my real voice," he replies. "Why does naebody believe I'm Scottish?!"

You can watch the clip below:

Actor Martin was born and raised in Greenock, Scotland, but many fans wouldn't know because he disguises his accent so well.

"Mind immediately blown," wrote one person in the comments, under the Soccer Aid Instagram vid.

While another penned: "How the hell did I not know he was Scottish?!?!?!?!?!?!"

"Can't believe he is Scottish," replied another.

Bit late to the party, guys, but we forgive you!

After two years away from our screens, Line of Duty came back with a bang on Sunday evening with a brand new murder case.

Series 5 wrapped in 2019, where we saw Superintendent Ted Hastings managed to avoid being framed as the elusive H. He is still leading the team at the anti-corruption department alongside DS Steve Arnott.

The highly anticipated sixth series gave viewers several plot twists and had them gripped from the offset. It's going to be a tough series for AC-12 as they continue to investigate the unsolved murder of Gail Vella.

Supt Ted Hastings, DI Kate Fleming and DS Steve Arnott are now required to investigate DCI Joanne Davidson, "the senior investigating officer of an unsolved murder, whose unconventional conduct raises suspicions at AC-12."

According to Adrian Dunbar, who plays Hastings, things are still looking murky for Ted - and for AC-12 as a whole - at the start of season six.

"Quite a lot has happened and there's been quite a time jump," Adrian explains. "In his working life, a lot of things have destabilised which have affected the unit. I think he's another year older but not another year wiser.

"Let's face it -time is running out a bit for Ted; the age he is, whether he can stay in the force, is he useful enough, is he a bit of a dinosaur? He's up against quite a bit. His personal life is not in great shape."

Oh Adrian you tease. We'll have to stay tuned for the rest of Line Of Duty to find out more (and to spot any hint of Martin's real Scottish accent...)
