Kate Ferdinand Slams Troll Who Slated Her For Calling Her Stepkids 'Family'

Pregnant Kate Ferdinand has hit back at a cruel social media troll who criticised her for referring to Rio and her stepchildren as "family."

Taking to Instagram to share a sweet throwback snap from the summer, the 29-year-old said: "One of my favourite days of this year, out at sea with the family .... no worries, happy & stress free."

And while most of Kate's followers wrote comments of support and well wishes, one troll hit out at Kate for her choice of words.

"Ooof. Rebeccas family. I'm all for stepmoms etc. And you've stepped into a massive hole. But those kids are Rebeccas," they said.

"And they'll not thank you for saying otherwise xx apart from that you are a lovely lovely girl. But, those wedding letters to "your" kids was terrible. Imagine if you were her looking down, or her mum n dad... not cool. Xx."

Rio's late wife Rebecca - mum to Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12 and Tia, nine - sadly passed away in 2015 at the age of 34.

On seeing the insensitive comment, Kate replied: "Wow. Very very narrow minded. Rebecca is there mum & forever will be - a mother can never be replaced. But let me clarify WE ARE family, families aren't just about blood, but who is there for us and loves us unconditionally.

"Please think before you speak, are all foster & adopted children family less?! Of course not. Family is about love and choosing to be there for one another.

"We are family by CHOICE it's so sad you don't understand, let's hope you never have to go through such heartache to get it."

And Kate's followers were quick to praise her for the response, with one saying: "Well said. Family is home life. The children are part of your home life you are a family unit."

While Rio also commented, adding: "Well said love" with a heart emoji.

Kate and Rio tied the knot last year in Marmaris, Turkey, after meeting a couple of years earlier.

In June, they announced Kate's pregnancy in possibly the cutest way ever, after they filmed how Lorenz, Tate, and Tia reacted - and they were so excited.

In the clip, Kate starts by flicking through a photo album with pictures of them all as babies. Tate then turns the page, and reads a message. It says: "Now for the next chapter... Guess what?"

And it doesn't take long for the penny to drop, with the kids squealing with excitement. You can watch it below...
