Brits Shocked After Finding Out How Much Boris Was Fined For Downing Street Party

Brits Shocked After Finding Out How Much Boris Was Fined For Downing Street Party

Brits are stunned at the figure.

Earlier this week, the Metropolitan Police issued a fine to prime minister Boris Johnson for attending his birthday party in the Cabinet room in Downing Street in June 2020.

Alongside Boris, wife Carrie as well as chancellor Rishi Sunak were also issued with fines for breaking lockdown rules.

Speaking after the fine, Boris said: "I have paid the fine and I once again offer a full apology.

"I want to be able to get on and deliver the mandate that I have, but also to tackle the problems that the country must face right now.

"... In all frankness at that time it did not occur to me that this might have been a breach of the rules".

Ever since the fine was issued, people have been shocked over the sum, with many wondering why some people were issued fines of thousands of pounds for breaching rules, while Boris was ordered to pay just £50.

"Why were Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak only fined £50 for hosting lockdown parties but some ordinary people fined £10,000?" One person asked.

While another said: "My student was fined £5,000 during lockdown. Boris Johnson was fine £50. Where is the fairness in that?"

And a third added: "The public were fined more than 50 quid. 10,000 for some, what an absolute joke."

Meanwhile a fourth said: "Boris Johnson breaks the rules he put in place and gets a £50 fine. Ordinary Brits break the rules and get thousands in fines. Talk about reinforcing one rule for them, another for us."

It's reported on Thursday that Boris could be facing further fines for lockdown breaches. Meanwhile, Lords justice minister David Wolfson made the decision to quit his role on Wednesday following the fines.

He said he had no option but to resign considering his "ministerial and professional obligations to support and uphold the rule of law”.
