Woman left stunned after mother-in-law showed up to her wedding wearing white dress

The mum attempted to claim the dress was actually cream

Weddings are the one time when it really can be all about you, so it's not surprising that one bride was left outraged after realising her soon-to-be mother-in-law was wearing an almost identical gown to her own on her big day.

Mum and wife Jasmine took to TikTok to share her baffling tale with her followers last week, after she tied the knot with her husband in a beautiful beach ceremony. But there was one cloud hanging over the couple's day:

As a wedding guest, you're not really asked to do much other than show up, have a dance and celebrate the happy couple.

However, there are a few, typically unspoken expectations that come with showing up, one of which is that you don't make it look like you're the bride.

This isn't really that hard, given that attire for the bride is pretty different to your average dress. That's literally why shops specifically made for wedding dresses exist, but Jasmine's mother-in-law apparently wasn't bothered about twinning with the bride.

In a series of posts on TikTok, Jasmine shared a photo from her wedding day which showed her looking beautiful in her white gown and veil, while on the other side of her new husband stood another woman in a white gown.

Jasmine explained she was determined to look good on her big day, and so went shopping with her mother-in-law to purchase a white, lace, sequinned gown.

The bride was so focused on her big day that she acknowledged not even someone 'wearing a white dress' could distract her, but when she began to look at photos the next day she began to get 'mad, and madder, and f**king furious'.

Rather than opting for a dress of literally any other colour, the mother-in-law had chosen a white, sequinned, mermaid-style dress of her own.

Jasmine's husband had no explanation for his mother's dress choice, and Jasmine admitted she felt 'embarrassed' now looking back on how she and her mother-in-law would have looked at the wedding.

"I can't even put into words now that my mother-in-law wore the same dress as on my wedding day, it hurts my soul, it ruined all the pictures on my day," she said.

The couple told the mother they weren't happy with her choice, and she sent a text to apologise for the dress.

It soon became clear that she wasn't really that sorry, though, because that Christmas she sent out a card featuring a picture from the wedding, with her in her white dress for all to see. Or rather, as the mother-in-law apparently later claimed, her 'cream' dress. Not that it makes much of a difference.

Jasmine was flooded with support from viewers after sharing her ordeal, with many assuring her that she looked 'beautiful' on her big day no matter what.

When some argued her husband should have done a better job of standing up to his mum on the wedding day, Jasmine stressed they were both so focused on having a good time that they weren't 'phased' by her dress.

After welcoming their first child, neither Jasmine or her husband are in contact with the mother-in-law.
