Are you reading this on the toilet? If you are, this might just convince you to stop doomscrolling and get up and on with it.

We're all guilty of spending a little too long in the bathroom - not because we're ahem, using the toilet for thirty minutes, but because we're sat idly looking through TikTok videos and Instagram reels.

Recently, Gen Z even gave the phenomenon a name: bathroom camping, which sees people shutting themselves away in a public or private toilet and staying there for some time to escape and deal with stress.

If you are someone with this habit, this story might rightly put you off, as one man in China suffered some horrific consequences after staying on the toilet for too long.

His rectum 'fell out'. Take a minute to process that information.

According to MailOnline, back in 2018, the man in question dramatically rushed to the hospital at midnight after he noticed a 'ball-sized' lump fall out of his anus.

If you're squeamish, skim over the next few lines.

Doctors allegedly said the lump, which was still attached to his rear, was actually his rectum, and it fell out after losing its attachment to his body, reports from China said at the time.

They said the anal prolapse could have been caused by the fact that he had sat on the toilet for more than 30 minutes.

As explained by the NHS, a rectal prolapse is when the last few inches of the bowel become stretched and stick out from the bottom.

This often happens because the anal sphincter muscle has become weakened - it usually presents as a lump protruding from the back passage and can be uncomfortable.

The lump can pop in and out initially; however, it can progress to protruding all the time if untreated.

The man in question admitted that the reason he'd spent so long on the loo was that he'd been playing games on his phone while trying to go about his business.

The patient's identity was never released, and the incident took place in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province.

According to the Mail, a doctor named Dr Su Dan from the gastrointestinal surgery division of The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University treated the patient.

His CT scan showed the ball-shaped bulge outside his anus, which reportedly had a diameter of 16 centimetres.

If you're panicking about your own toilet habits, don't worry too much, as it turns out that the man actually had the condition for years.

Dr Su said: "'The patient has had rectal prolapse since he was four years old, but the bulge was able to retract in the past. But he did not have the condition treated, so the situation got worse."

Surgeons successfully removed the lump on the same day, and he recovered, thankfully.

If you're still on the loo after reading all of this, seriously, now is the time to get up.
