Last year, a woman divided opinion by revealing that she'd welcomed her beloved late son's child via surrogacy.

Then-68-year-old Spanish actor and television presenter Ana Obregón shared the exciting news that she'd welcomed a baby girl into her family with a gorgeous magazine photoshoot alongside the newborn.

She quickly went on to disclose, however, that it wasn't a daughter she was expecting, but a granddaughter.

If you're struggling to get your head around it so far, believe me, it took me a while as well.

Back in May 2020, Ana's 27-year-old son Aless Lequio tragically lost his life to cancer, after which Ana decided to take a step back from the showbiz industry.

But three years after announcing the heartbreaking news of her son's premature passing, Ana further shocked her hundreds of thousands of followers by announced she'd welcomed a child, despite being in her 60s.

It wasn't until she spoke to Spanish publication Hola!, however, that she finally opened up on her connection to the newborn tot.

Ana explained that, after making a huge promise to her son before he passed away, she made a decision that would go on to change the entire rest of her life.

"This baby girl is not my daughter, but my granddaughter," she told the outlet.

"She is Aless’ daughter and when she grows up I will tell her that her father was a hero so that she knows who she is and how proud she should be of him."

Revealing she'd named the infant Anita, Ana added that the journey of conceiving her son's baby began 'the day my child went to heaven', after she learnt of his wishes to tick fatherhood off his bucket list before he passed away.

"What people don’t know is that this was Aless’ last wish: to bring a child into the world," she said.

The on-screen star went on to detail at the time exactly how much her newborn granddaughter had changed her life for the better.

Ana said: "The only thing that has allowed me to continue living every day, every second, is to fulfil the mission of bringing Aless’ daughter into the world."

"I’m happy!" she continued. "Surrounded by diapers, bottles, all pink, full of bows and smelling like perfume, how wonderful!"

On 20 March, the now-69-year-old shared a beautiful snap of the Anita's first birthday party.

"Today you turn 1 YEAR OLD," she captioned the photo. "I can only thank you for filling my heart with light, immersed in the deepest darkness and mutilated by immense pain.

"Thank you for your smile, your babbling, your crawling and first steps."

Ana went on to thank the little one for looking at her with the 'same love that your Dad looked at me', adding: "No one had ever looked at me that way."

She said: "You are a copy of your Dad desired from that sky that borders eternity. Someday I will tell you what your Dad was like, noble, generous, brave, supportive, fun, loving, with a crazy tenderness that provoked love in all of us who were lucky enough to love him."

"And you will be the same, Anita," Ana continued. "My little angel of light, you will blow out the candle tonight in your dream with your Dad while I hug you dying of love."
