We're at the end of 2025 and, with it, I'm sure many of us are buzzing to get cracking with our 2026 New Year's resolutions.
Popular resolutions on the list may include joining the gym, reading more books, and giving Dry Jan a go, but if spicing up your solo sex life is up there, then you may be keen to learn all about something called 'syntribation'.
The hands-free masturbation technique, which allows people to reach climax without lifting a finger, has become super popular among women, with sex therapist Ness Cooper telling us all we need to know about how to do it, why it works, and the benefits of it.
According to Ness, syntribation is when 'an individual with a vagina squeezes their thighs together, allowing the pressure of the two legs squashing together to give pleasurable sensations that lead to orgasm'.
A sex therapist has revealed everything we need to know about 'syntribation' (Getty Stock Images) Speaking to the Metro, the expert explained: "It’s likely that many people try it [syntribation] at some point, particularly during the early stages of sexual discovery.
"Many people experience their first orgasm when crossing their legs when young, particularly if they were trying to hold the need to pee when no toilets are around.
"Others may have tried syntribation as a discreet way to explore masturbation when having to share a room."

It may also look like grinding and squeezing a pillow between the legs, with those who practice this technique swearing it gives them some pretty mind-blowing orgasms.
And syntribation is far from niche, as while a 1976 Hite Report found that 3 per cent of individuals masturbate through syntribation, Ness believes it’s way more common.
OK, that's all well and good, but how do you actually do it?
You can try out syntribation solo style or with a partner (PonyWang / Getty Images) Ness outlines: "This can be done lying down, either on your back or side. Some people report being able to perform it whilst standing or sitting. Some vary the pressure by crossing their legs together, which can add more stimulation to the vulva and clitoris."
What's great about this masturbation method, which can also be used during sex with a partner, is that it's discreet.
"It’s hands-free and doesn’t require much movement," Ness notes, adding that it's also great for those who experience mobility issues or who may have arthritis in their hands and wrists.
She continues: "People with pelvic floor issues may find it easier to orgasm in syntribation as it can activate the pelvic floor differently than other masturbation positions, allowing for extra blood flow to the area."
The expert also recommended wearable sex toys like we-vibe, or sex toys that can be placed against the vulva and be squeezed towards the clitoris during syntribation to enhance the experience, adding: "Activating the pelvic floor during syntribation may intensify the sensations felt during masturbation, too."
Additionally, Ness highlighted that some people find syntribation can be more relaxing than other forms of masturbation.
"The method can stimulate both the external and internal parts of the clitoris through applying pressure to the thighs together," she explained. "With the thighs rubbing together, it can also stimulate nerves that are in the legs, which are also linked to the genitals, adding more erotic awareness and making it easier to stimulate the clitoris to orgasm."
