Sexpert reveals shocking reason why cruises are 'hotbeds' for affairs

One in five cruise-goers has admitted to having an affair

A cruise sounds like the ultimate relaxing, even romantic, holiday.

In fact, some people are even packing it all in to live aboard a ship full time these days, after calculating it’s cheaper to do that and live in luxury than paying rent or retirement home fees.

One couple even booked 51 cruises back-to-back for that exact reason.

I’ll admit, it is tempting. I’m picturing top-tier food, wind on our faces, and no responsibilities.

But as is usually the case, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to cruise life.

It turns out there’s an entire seedy underbelly that completely passed our innocent minds by.

The truth is that cruises are actually a hotbed for affairs.

Gulp.

Infidelity expert, Jessica Leoni from Illicit Encounters, has revealed that there are five major factors that lead to a huge number of affairs at sea.

If you’re married and opt for cruises, you may want to hold onto your hat for this one.

Leoni said: “There’s no doubt that cruises provide the perfect environment for affairs to fester.

“For starters, you’re contained in one place with a limited number of people and a constant supply of booze and food. Many will start to clock on to the same familiar faces in the dining areas, which usually become ideal for scouting out naughty encounters.

“Believe it or not, breathing in sea air has also been proven to increase serotonin and oxytocin levels—the hormones linked to love and arousal. So, it’s no wonder that people are more frisky on cruises.”

Without further ado, here are the five driving factors behind on-board affairs…

Containment

Holidayers are stuck with a limited number of people onboard a cruise.

Dining areas become hunting grounds for illicit affairs.

Sea air

Studies show that being near the ocean can increase levels of oxytocin - the love hormone.

Booze and bites

Getting drunk onboard, while indulging in cruise ship luxuries, will undoubtedly encourage you to make decisions you wouldn’t otherwise.

Short-term

Boat holidays are short enough to provide the perfect amount of time for a quick fling.

All dressed up

With holidayers dressed up to the nines in gowns and swimsuits, it’s no wonder people feel a little frisky!

This icky reveal follows on from reports that one in five cruise-goers have admitted to cheating during their sea odyssey.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, a jaw-dropping 81% admitted their other half was onboard at the time of the affair.

'It’s likely these figures will only climb higher'

A lesser known fact about cruise ships is that they’re usually fully stocked with condoms, lube and even pregnancy testing kits.

At least people are (probably) using protection.

Leoni continued: “Now that we’re seeing such a boom in nudity cruises and sex voyages, it’s likely these figures will only climb higher.

“With just adults on board, risque shows and wild nightlife, cruise holidayers will be sure to continue pushing boundaries for the foreseeable future.”

On that note, maybe cruises are better for a girls' trip.
