There are some baby names that consultants dread to hear, and there’s a specific reason why.
Regardless of whether or not a name is popular, naming your child is a special moment, and what really matters most is that you like the name.
But if you want to make sure you’re choosing something that’s on trend, then you might want to learn about this list of 10 names baby name consultants hate.
From names that take inspiration from months in the year, to film characters or words we typically call those we love, consultants Colleen Slagen and Jessie Paquette are vocal about their dislike.

Beau, Lydia, and Olivia, are just three names that are on the list of ‘do not name your child this’ when it comes to how the consultants feel.

The women shared the list on the Name 911 podcast, where the pair gave some insights on their pet peeves.
Slagen believes that using last names as first names can either be a disaster or a success, as she said: “It totally depends on the user. It depends on where you're from. It depends on who you've met with that name."
Paquette went on to say that people’s opinions shouldn’t be the be all and end all of your choice.
Despite being vocal about what they don’t like, the pair shared that if you’re the one who likes it, then just choose it and forget about what others think.
Anyway, here are the names they hate and why:
August
Beau
Porter
Keegan
Griffin
Maverick
Olivia
Sophia
Eliana
Lydia
Paquette isn’t a fan of people naming their boys August and Beau for boys or naming their girls ‘most’ of the popular girl names like Olivia and Sophia because they’re overused.
She also doesn’t like Eliana because to her, the name is ‘trying too hard.’

Slagen went on to say that the name Porter for boys sounds like ‘Porter Potty’, Lydia reminds her of 'Crazy Aunt Lydia' and neither like Maverick because it’s ‘gimmicky’.
Hilariously, there are also names that they nearly named their own kids that the other didn’t like.
"There are names that I borderline almost named my child that actually give Colleen a visceral reaction and vice versa," said Paquette.
So really, it’s all just down to personal preference, and despite their expertise, they say you should choose a name you like and forget about what others think.
