Mum issues supermarket trolley warning after baby suffers horrific brain injury

Mum issues supermarket trolley warning after baby suffers horrific brain injury

The ordeal has made mum Casey determined to fight for change

A mum has issued an important warning about supermarket trolleys after her baby suffered a horrific brain injury.

Casey Gobbert, from Queensland in Australia, was out shopping her two kids - three-year-old Lincoln and 17-month-old Millie - on 9 February, when she was thrown a terrifying ‘curve ball’.

After finishing the groceries, they all returned to the car to load everything into the boot, with Casey leaving Millie in the trolley’s child seat momentarily so that she could strap Lincoln into his seat.

However, the trolley suddenly ‘blew off the kerb and tipped’ sending Millie to the ground.

After being rushed to hospital, doctors found the youngster had a bleed on her brain and was taken in for emergency surgery.

Poor Millie had to be rushed to hospital.

Speaking about the scary incident to Instagram page CPR Kids, Casey said: “Little Millie had a horrible accident at 6.30pm Thursday night. She was in a shopping trolley when it blew off the kerb and tipped, hitting her head on the bitumen. It took all of 2 seconds for me to put her brother Lincoln in car for it to happen.

“We took her straight to Logan Emergency. They monitored her, for a few hours, decided she needed a ct scan which found a large brain bleed causing pressure on her brain.

Millie fell from the trolley to the hard ground.

“She was prepped immediately. Sedated, intubated and rushed lights and sirens to the Brisbane Children's hospital where she was rushed straight into emergency brain surgery.

“She was in surgery for about 2 hours. Got out at 2am Friday morning. And was in the paediatric ICU until 1.30pm Saturday. Where we were then moved to the high acuity ward.”

Casey said her daughter was ‘doing amazing’, having had a follow-up CT scan that showed her brain is ‘looking great’.

"They lowered the sedation, and took the breathing tube out,” she continued.

“She’s flying through her tests and she's getting stronger.

The youngster is now thankfully doing much better.

“She's now trying to sit up, smiling and eating. Her cheeky self is coming through now and I can't be happier and proud of her progress."

Thankfully, Millie is now home after the horrible ordeal - which has made mum Casey determined to fight for change.

She added: "All shopping trolleys with child restraints need to have a braking system in place. I am determined to make this happen. If I can do this and it stops just one child from being injured than it will be a success.

“Hug your little ones tight. You never know when the world will throw you a curve ball.”
