'Morning shed' is the new trend taking over Gen Z and Millennials are baffled

People have said those who take part in 'morning shedding' are 'genuinely insane'

It seems like every other week there's a new piece of lingo we need to add to our ever-expanding social media dictionaries, with the latest addition none other than the 'morning shed'.

We already know all about Gen Z's obsession with using nifty little buzz words to explain longer concepts - cue Coffee Badging, 'cortisol face' and 'tadpole water' - but the one everyone seems to be obsessed with right now is all to do with beautification.

In case you've somehow not come across an avalanche of people showing off their 'morning shed routines' on TikTok - here's all you need to know about it.

What is 'morning shed'?

Now, everyone's version of a 'morning shed' will differ from the next but the general idea is that you 'go to bed ugly' so you can 'wake up pretty'.

That may mean whacking your hair in those heatless curl rollers so you have a Hollywood-style blow-out come 7.00am, 'slugging' your face in serums to wake up with a glowing complexion before work or even contouring your face with fake tan to take one more step out of your make-up routine.

Others seem to take the trend to the next level beyond just DIY beautifying methods with many taping their mouths shut to allegedly improve your jawline - not proven by science btw - as well as donning a jaw strap to help with teeth clenching or plastering a bunch of silicone patches to your forehead to improve the appearance of wrinkles and scars.

Other items commonly seen in such videos also include; waist trainers, eye patches, eye masks, lip masks and even eye tape.

What are people saying about the 'morning shed' trend?

The new beauty trend seems be massive with Gen Z (those born between 1997 to 2012), with many rushing to social media to share their praise for the practice.

Under one video, a viewer praised: "Girl that is a SNATCHED jawline."

"This is my sign to buy these tapes," chirped a second while a third chimed in: "I love these shedding videos. I don’t feel alone!"

Millennials, however, seem to be less infatuated with the fad, with one TikTok user commenting on a video: "Idk why but the mouth tape scares me it feels dangerous lol."

A second hit out: "I don’t get it, why u use all that stuff? What’s the point? I’m lost."

"Hey this is genuinely insane," declared a third while a fourth worried: "This doesn't look safe."

A fifth penned: "Imagine waking up late and having to take all that off."

"That's crazy, I just brush my teeth and go to bed," admitted another.

And a final TikTok user joked: "Yeah. I sleep in my makeup. So my morning shed usually starts with a stare of regret in the mirror, and a makeup wipe."

Unfortunately all too relatable.
