Shoppers outraged after supermarket introduces 10p charge for item that was previously free

If you thought that hanging up your freshly bought clothing was a right, then you’re wrong.

According to this major supermarket brand, it’s a privilege that you need to pay for.

That’s right, Tesco is baffling shoppers who are shocked that you’ll now have to pay for a tiny bit of plastic instead of being given it for free.

Those who now browse through the aisle for F&F will be furious when they get to the till and the once free coat hanger is now costing you a whopping 10 pence.

According to the supermarket giant, this new charge has been implemented to shift towards less plastic, but people aren’t happy.

The Tesco subreddit for employees and customers branded the charge ‘pathetic’ with one calling it a ‘sneaky charge being imposed on customers’.

They said: “So, was in Tesco today, got some swimming clothes for the kids and my wife got a dress.

“Went through the scan as you shop and paid, went to get the tags taken off and was told it’s 10p for a clothes hanger.

“Now I work at this store, and I’ve never heard of this. I’ve also never seen anything around the store or around the clothes section.

“So, either someone is trying to earn some extra dosh or it’s a sneaky charge being imposed on customers. Has anyone else had this?”

Another said: “Tesco charging 10p if you want to keep their hangers now! Next there will be an entrance fee.”

Someone else wrote: “What’s next they gonna start charging for the air you breathe? 25p oxygen charge.”

Another user wrote: “If this is a new thing that is actually pathetic of Tesco to do that.”

However, there are those who agree with the charge, whether it’s down to people stealing or moving towards an eco-friendly stance.

One user claimed that it was down to lifters: “It’s a trial. They are trying to discourage people from taking hangers as they usually just get chucked anyway.

“If Tesco can keep them they can reuse them and therefore don’t have to produce more. Little planet saving steps.”

But it’s not the end of the world for shoppers who could buy hangers online to store away for a time like this.

Though, it definitely could be a pain to those who are missing the correct hanger and now need to buy their hangers on top of the clothing when they thought it was going to be a nice freebie.
