Wherever we live, we all strive to give the best care for our pets but having the things you need on your doorstep will certainly make life easier.

And that's why Sutton Coldfield has been revealed as the best place in the UK to own a canine companion.

The town, which is just based outside Birmingham, has been deemed the most dog-friendly place in Great Britain thanks to its many dog-friendly parks, including the 2,000 acre Sutton Park, new research has found.

According to Legal & General, who conducted the survey with 100 urban dog owners, the West Midlands overall has the most dog-friendly towns and cities, while Yorkshire and the Humber has the least.

As a nation of dog lovers, the survey found that canine owners said the most important resource was a nearby park for walks, followed by a local vet practice, nearby pet shops and professional dog walkers.

While the leafy Royal town of Sutton Coldfield came up trumps overall, Hertfordshire's Hemel Hempstead was voted the best town for veterinary options - with 86 per cent of practises accredited by a regulatory body.

Along with regulatory accreditation, the Greater London suburb was deemed most favourable for vet practices because of their weekends opening hours.

On the shop front, Hartlepool in Durham has 5.7 pet shops per 1,000 dogs, more than any other urban place, while Farnborough has the best access to dog walkers, with 4.6 companies per 1,000 dogs.

It should be noted that no location featured in the top 10 for every resource the company analysed.
