This Hack To Find Out What Side Your Petrol Cap Is On Has Changed Our Lives

It's probably been staring at you the whole time. Sorry.

Drivers will have been there: your fuel light is flashing so you pull into the nearest petrol station you can find and head in the directions of the pumps - until your mind blanks and you have no idea what side your cap is on.

Maybe it's your car and you've had temporary memory loss, or maybe you're using a hire car and forgot to make a note before getting in.

Either way, what results is an awkward little moment where you have to peep out of the car to check, or otherwise, spin around when you realise you've pulled up at the wrong pump.

Well did you know there's actually a far easier way of checking? And it's probably been staring at your this whole time.

Yes, sat there on your dashboard, staring right at you, is a little arrow next to your petrol pump icon, which points in the direction your cap is on.

LIFE CHANGED.

Perhaps even more infuriating when we consider the years of petrol station confusion, is that this arrow has been there since basically forever if most cars.

If you knew this already, well done you, and why haven't you shared it with the rest of us?!

The amount of times we'll pulled into the wrong pump when filling up... (

But a scan of Twitter shows we're not alone. Tons of people had no idea about the true meaning of the arrow, either.

"How old where you when you realised that the arrow at the side of the petrol pump tells you which side your tank is on?? WHAT!!!!!," wrote one person.

"21 years of being pulled up at the wrong side of the petrol pump finally over," shared another.

"Filling your car up for petrol for the 1000th time but still can't remember what side the tank is on? Instead of dangerously craning your neck out of the window, simply look at the arrow by the petrol pump on your dash," another offered.

We are going to feel SO smug next time we pull in to fill up.
