Crystal users are adamant that some of their favourite stones can help with emotional and physical healing - but is there any stock behind their claim?

A survey published last year revealed that one in five Brits believe in the healing power of crystals, while 38 percent of UK dwellers use or wear the trinkets on a regular basis.

For a limited time, firm believers can benefit from a money-saving deal on a rose quartz crystal tower, with Amazon discounting it down to £8.39.

But what actually is rose quartz, its benefits, and what does science say about the stone’s promises.

What is rose quartz?

Considered a semiprecious stone, rose quartz is a hard mineral with a history apparently dating back to 7000 BC.

Rarely found as a crystal, the rock is far more common in massive form and is usually translucent.

Often, the rose quartz can vary in colour, with some exhibiting the palest pink hue, while others are much more fluorescent.

This is because due to the trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese that cause it to absorb and reflect certain wavelengths of light. The more impurities, the darker the object.

Experts claim rose quarts can ‘heal’

If you’re tempted by the deal, then you might be interested in hearing what healing properties and so-called ‘health benefits’ are related to rose quarts crystals.

Commonly referred to as the ‘heart stone’, the precious stone is used in meditation and to gain creative inspiration, while others swear by sleeping with it under their pillow with the hope of bringing love to their bed.

Speaking to Healthline, crystal healer and reiki master Keith Birch said: “Rose quartz is a powerful healing crystal.

“Its soft, gentle, almost pastel pale pink coloring is a good indication of its most commonly known property: that of pure love. It’s a stone of both giving and receiving love.”

Another idea that many users of the alternative medicine take stock in is that the rock may help to heal relationship issues, boos feelings of self-love, and even physically ward off bad energy.

“Rose quartz wards off negativity, and when carried on your person, helps to replace negative emotions with positive, returning the wearer to that place of pure love and balance,” Birch claimed.

Other suggested benefits of rose quartz

  • Improve heart health
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Enhance sleep quality
  • Encourages self-love
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Banishes mental fog

What science says about crystal healing

Despite a long list of anecdotal promises, scientists have not yet found any basis to back up claims about about the gemstones.

In a 2021 interview, Peter Heaney, a mineral sciences professor at Pennsylvania State University, said he wasn’t ‘aware’ of any ‘supported studies into the healing powers of crystals’ and that while they do have an ‘energy’ this isn’t transferrable to humans.

While there are no scientific studies on the efficacy of crystal healing, there is research that suggests crystal healing may induce a placebo effect in a patient who receives this type of treatment, as per Christopher French, head of the anomalistic psychology research unit at the University of London.

He added: “But whether or not you judge crystal healing, or any other form of [complementary and alternative medicine], to be totally worthless depends upon your attitude to placebo effects.”

Abigail Parker, a crystal expert, agreed that while there isn’t any evidence supporting the effectiveness of healing crystals from the scientific community, there is a ‘vibrant and growing community of holistic wellness enthusiasts and practitioners who have personally experienced remarkable benefits through careful use of these crystals’.

Speaking to the Fox News Digital, the author also commented on the idea of the placebo affect.

“If individuals hold the belief that a particular crystal will have an impact, they may experience perceived benefits based on their expectations,” Parker alleged.

How to incorporate rose quartz into your daily routine

If you decide to pick up a rose quartz crystal from Amazon, then there are various ways you can use it.

Some people like to wear the crystal around their necks, while others prefer to use the pillar to purify the energy in their homes.

The natural crystal wand can be used during tarot readings, manifestation practices, or can just be put out for decoration.

Shoppers may also like to hold their rose quarts while setting daily intentions, with some claiming it helps focus them.
