One food and drink item that's banned by all cinemas

Many of us bring our own food to the cinema to save money but there's one item that's a no-go

There's nothing quite like watching the latest blockbuster on a big cinema screen while chomping down on some snacks.

With cinema food basically costing the same as a mortgage on a small house, many of us like to take our own refreshments with us when we go to the cinema. After all, who wants to pay nearly five quid for a bag of Malteasers?

Fortunately, most cinema staff are pretty chill about cinemagoers bringing their own food and drink. But there's one item that's a no-go across all the big cinema chains.

While the chains all offer a selection of food and beverages to buy on site, they say they don't mind people bringing in their own refreshments.

There are, however, some exceptions.

Odeon cinemas don't allow you to bring in any hot food from outside. They also don't want customers bringing any particularly smelly foods into the screens with them - which we actually really appreciate, to be honest.

On top of this, their Luxe and Dine locations don't permit you to bring your own food.

Like Odeon, Showcase cinemas do not permit hot food, and they've also put a ban on glass containers within their premises.

Similarly, both Vue and Cineworld don't allow you to bring or consume any hot food from outside the venues.

And, there's one more item that's banned across all cinema chains - alcohol.

While most allow you to purchase alcohol within their premises - some even have full bar menus on offer - bringing your own booze is strictly prohibited.

This is because cinemas are only licensed to allow consumption of alcohol bought on the premises.

But, of course, that hasn't stopped some brave cinemagoers from sneaking it in, with many sharing their tips on Reddit.

One person admitted: "I once took two small bottles of coke, emptied out half and filled them back up with Jack Daniels.

"I went to watch The Dark Knight and was stone cold sober when I went in. I was hammered by the end of the film and couldn't remember how it finished."

Another shared: "Personally, I would secrete miniatures in pockets or a false bottom in my handbag and then buy the mixers in the cinema.

"Or, you know those capri-sun pouches? Empty those and refill with alcohol and slip them down your trousers."

And a third wrote: "In your belly by drinking it before you go."
