It's easy to let words pass us by in life without lending them too much thought, but as the internet proves time and time again - there's usually a reason for everything.

The luckiest among us have had the opportunity to visit the likes of Disneyland and Disney World, whether to keep the kids happy or spoil our own inner child.

And while it's likely to have not paid too much mind to why exactly they're called that, a recent tweet drawing attention to the words has served as a giant lightbulb moment.

A photograph of an NBC segment shows that 'DisneyLAnd' versus 'Disney wORLd' suggests they have those names because LA and ORL refer Los Angeles and Orlando, respectively - which are the locations of each park.

The person sharing the screen grab wrote: "This… Uh… This has honestly never EVER occurred to me."

But it seems not everybody was so convinced by the explanation.

One person wrote in response: "Disneyland is in Anaheim, and Disney World is in Lake Buena Vista lol."

Another said: "Just a coincidence. And Disneyland is in Anaheim, not Los Angeles. Not even in LA county lmao."

Tyla has contacted Disney for clarification.

It's more than possible that it is just a coincidence, with there being 12 Disney theme parks located across the world and six different resorts - and not all of them have corresponding names.

Disney theme parks exist in California, Florida, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Paris, and Shanghai.

Disneyland, which is based in Anaheim, California, is the oldest, having opened way back in 1955.

Meanwhile, in 1971 Walt Disney World Resort opened in Florida, boasting six theme parks and water parks, a sports complex, golf courses and the Disney Springs shopping complex.

All of this chat has probably led you to want to know what the main differences between Disneyland and Disneyworld are - and which one you should think about booking for your next trip.

Well, Disney World is much vaster than Disneyland, comprised of an eye-watering 27,000 acres which stretch across five theme parks and two water parks.

Adding Disney Springs to that, as well as over 25 resort hotels within the Disney World resort in Florida, it's clearly the more elaborate option.

When it comes to Disneyland, while it's still majorly impressive, the design itself is one of a more humble nature.

There are two parks to enjoy - both Disneyland Park and California Adventure Park, which combined cover 500 acres.

In other words, it would be possible to fit 54 Disneyland parks into Disney World.

Now that would be a fun day out...
