Man waits 10 whole years to finish joke and people can’t decide if it’s funny or not

People are unsure whether the joke is a hit or a flop

A man who waited a decade to reveal the punchline to a social media joke has faced an unexpectedly controversial response.

Why? Because audiences are torn as to whether it is the best, or in fact, the worst joke they've ever heard.

Now, let's think back to 2014.

'Gangnam Style' had reached the No. 1 spot in the music charts, The Fault In Our Stars landed in cinemas and footballer Luis Suarez famously bit a competitor at the World Cup.

And it was around that time that one self-professed amateur comedian took to X (then known as Twitter) to instigate a joke, in the hope of catching the attention of his handful of followers.

Dave Wiskus - who also boasts a career as a filmmaker - opened up a new post and began typing away, unaware at the time that 10 years later he'd boast one of the most-talked about moments from 2024.

"You know what the secret to comedy is?" he wrote, on the 16 August 2014.

Followers of Dave took to the tweet's comments in the days, weeks, months and subsequently, years to come, wondering what on earth the punchline could possibly be.

Others, meanwhile, wondered why Dave never returned to the post to give his audience an answer.

Until today, that is, after the comic finally issued the punchline to his joke, a decade to the day.

"Timing," he simply penned, instigating a mic-drop moment that will go down in history.

Or, so he thought.

It turns out that not everyone was so impressed by the punchline of the joke, and believe that Dave's revelation was rather anti-climatic.

"Might have been funnier if it was at the same time .. Waited 10 years for an unfunny classic timing joke.. Pitty," one hit out.

Another wrote: "All of that just for everyone to have a straight face when reading it".

A third added: "AND THE CROWD WENT MILD"

As we say, however, some audience members were absolutely elated by Dave's eagerly-awaited return to social media, with some branding him a comedy genius.

"Dropping a punchline a decade later is legendary," one fan gushed.

Another penned: "Honestly it would take me like 10 years to come up with something like this, bravo"

"Ten years from now folk will still be talking about this tweet. Perfection", a third continued.

A fourth went on: "That’s dedication to your craft right there"

"Hall of fame tweet," another wrote in the comments. "I respect the commitment, imma do my part to help make this go viral".
