Woman's Boyfriend Buys Her Best Friend Flowers And Twitter Is Divided

All most people seem to really want in a partner is someone who cares for them, respects them and takes their friends under their wing like they're their own.

And that is exactly what Max Kupfer did.

When his girlfriend Abigail Gibson's best pal Stephanie Baker found out she'd been cheated on, Max, from Indiana USA, felt that any friend of hers was a friend of his too, and went out of his way to buy her a bunch of flowers.

But nothing could prepare them for the reaction that followed on social media.

Checking with Abi, 21, first, Max asked her if he thought the gesture would come across as creepy, but Abi confirmed she didn't think he was overstepping the mark.

Explaining why he did it, Max, 21, told Tyla: "I wanted to help cheer her up and do something nice for her and show her not all guys were so sh**ty" [sic].

But when Abi put a post on Twitter gushing about what her boyfriend had done, it received far less glowing feedback from some.

Her post read: "My best friend was cheated on by her boyfriend, and MY boyfriend bought her flowers just to show her that she deserves better than a cheater."

"He knows if he's dating me, he's dating my friends."

Of course Abi did not mean it literally. What she meant was, if you date her, you need to be friends with her pals too - and to be honest, we love her attitude.

But plenty of Twitter users had something negative to say.

One replied: "Your boyfriends sh**ging your best pal," as another snapped back: "'If he's dating me, he's dating my friends' nah baby girl. He's dating me.

"This isn't a community service project... you the friend. You go buy it. But you go with them to deliver it. It's not insecure. It's respect".

A third warned: "Keep the same energy when u walk in on them kissing".

Far from the sordid outcome doubters imagined, when Max popped into the girls' night they were having to bring the flowers to Stephanie, she assumed the bunch was for Abi. Upon realising they were in fact for her, she almost began to cry.

Sweet, right? Plus, Abi and pal Stephanie, 21 - who moved in together earlier this year - were both over the moon with the gesture.

Stephanie told Tyla: "I was surprised, and it almost made me cry, but it made my day better knowing I had people around me who cared for and supported me so much." Awhhh!

Meanwhile, Abi added: "Max is the sweetest man I have ever met. He just cares about the people I keep close to me, which means so much."

"He would do this for any of my friends."

Abi never expected a negative response to her tweet. She told Tyla: "I did not expect this tweet to go viral and was shocked with the amount of backlash the tweet has received.

"I trust my boyfriend. I don't think he would ever cheat on me."

But it wasn't all bad.

Abi added: "Despite the negative feedback, I have been overwhelmed with so many positive comments."

For instance, a kinder tweet read: "I think this is truly sweet. People are saying this seems sketchy but I think only you know what the dynamic is."

While another agreed: "Abi, DO NOT let this beautiful moment been ruined by people that only have #hate in their [hearts].They are jealous bc no one gave them flowers n they do NOT deserve them.

"I can see my friend's husband doing this for me while we barely know each other and my friend reacting the same way because she knows we would never break her trust.

"He didn't do this behind your back, he asked you first. #hatersgonnahate #loveconquersall." [sic]
