Flight attendant shares genius 'empty container' hack to use on holiday

If thoughts of a sun-soaked, tan-topping vacation have been the only thing getting you through the woeful winter months, when the day finally comes to hit the embark your flight, I bet one of the last things on your mind is the level of security at your hotel.

And who can blame you? By that point, you just wanna dump your bags, quick change into your swimming gear and bag a spot by the pool, right?

If you're anything like me, you'll shove some of your most expensive items - your jewellery, digital camera, AirPods - into the top drawer of your hotel room's bedside table and forget all about them.

Apparently, however, this is the WORST thing you can do if you're looking to prevent your belongings being pinched by a thief.

That's right, travel experts at Hotel & Discounts have claimed this would be the first place a robber would look.

Apparently, holidaymakers should instead opt for more unusual hiding spots, such as in the handle of a hairbrush.

Meanwhile, travel platform Skyscanner urged travellers to hide valuables in empty bottles, empty suntan lotion containers and empty lip balm.

They explained: "To avoid the worst-case scenario of being robbed, it’s best to be inconspicuous. Don’t flash cash or expensive jewellery.

"If you’re worried about valuable stuff in your hotel room, hide it in an empty suntan lotion container.

"You could also use empty lip balm containers to hide rolled-up notes. You could also consider getting travel insurance."

Miguel Munoz, a flight attendant, has agreed with this assessment and said that using toiletries in the hotel room was also a good option.

He claimed that he used common items around his room to hide money, even storing dosh inside empty crisp packets or tin foil.

However, experts at Wheresharon warned: "I suggest not doing this when your room is about to be cleaned. This could also work well when walking around."

Wardrobes, under the bed and the fridge are considered to be the worst hiding spots.

Putting valuables in the suitcase or underneath the mattress or laundry basket are also frowned upon by experts.

This isn't the first security tip that has been offered up for holidaymakers.

Flight attendant Esther Sturrus took to TikTok to offer some advice of her own - that involved a shoe and a hotel safe.

Sturrus said: "Worried about forgetting something from your locker? Put your heel or shoe in it and you won't forget it."

Because you wouldn't leave your hotel room without your shoe, would you?

Open up the safe and it's there, right next to your valuables.

Genius, one might say.
