There's ridiculous rumours, and then there's this.

Hilary Duff has been forced to deny that she's a child trafficker after a bizarre - and we mean *bizarre* - rumour was started about her on Twitter.

It all began when Hilary, 32, shared a selection of family snaps on her Instagram Stories.

One of the images featured her eight-year-old son, Luca, who was naked in the picture but censored with a sticker. So far, so normal. Here's for the bonkers bit.

Following the post, one social media user started a bizarre conspiracy theory that she had tried to traffic her own son. Yep, you read that correctly.

Hilary - obviously horrified by the claims - took to social media tweeting: "Everyone bored af right now I know..but this is actually disgusting..... whoever dreamed this one up and put this garbage into the universe should take a break from their damn phone. Maybe get a hobby."

Hilary's rep also addressed about the disgusting tweets, telling E! News: "Let me say this in the strongest terms, this is all a fabricated disgusting internet lie, created and perpetuated by trolls and idiots. Hilary's own post this morning is all that needs to be said on the matter.

"Everyone who knows Hilary is fully aware what an amazing mom she is and that requires no further comment. If only people with this much time on their hands used their energy to solve real problems in the world."

Hilary's husband Matthew Koma also retweeted Hilary's tweets on his own account.

Fans also rushed to the Lizzie McGuire star's defence, with one commenting: "People are literally insane, and it's sad to see how one stupid thought can turn into a parasite in so many peoples minds."

While another tweeted: "What a reach, Hilary no one finds it credible! We love you!!!"

We can't believe some of the lengths people will go to. Luckily, Hilary seems to have put the conspiracy theory behind her, posting some adorable snaps of the family having fun in the sun this weekend!
