Scrubbing the oven is one of the least fun ways to spread an evening. However, the latest cleaning hack being shared online has promised a zero effort and zero fuss way to clean those tricky oven racks.
The life hack was shared in a Facebook group by a Plymouth mum who said the trick makes cleaning the racks like 'child's play', and it’s also much better for the environment.
The hack is simple; all you need to do is leave your oven rack in some grass overnight. the next morning, wiping away the dirt and grime is easy and takes minutes.
After seeing the hack on TV years ago, Mum Marea Pearse was doubtful the hack would work but has since changed her mind, Speaking to Plymouth Live, she said: "I saw the hack some time ago on the TV. I waited ages to try it not thinking it would work, but lo and behold it's brilliant, so have been passing on my knowledge.
"I don't know why it works and don't care, it makes cleaning the racks child's play and it is environmentally friendly as well. Also try with barbecue racks, they are notoriously hard to clean."
Her daughter shared the amazing results in a Facebook group, writing: "Oven cleaning game changer I had to share. My mother told me a while back that to clean your racks and side panels leave them overnight in the grass.
"Well I finally tried it last night and cleaned them this morning. Omg so easy just light rub with the wire wool and washing up water.
"Never again will I be doing Mr Muscle. Just had to share."
The no effort trick has racked up many comments with some desperate to try the hack and some who have been using the savvy trick for years. One person commented: "Been doing this for years. Ever since leaving the bbq grill in the grass overnight. Isn’t it amazing!! Haven’t tried oven racks yet - that’s next."
Another person added: "It's probably the dew softening up all the hard bits. Great idea."
For those without a garden, a tip was shared: "Apparently works with fresh grass cutting too so if have a council grass cut scoop some up just needs to be damp."
A cleaning expert has shared their view on why leaving a dirty oven rack in the grass can help with cleaning. Nigel Bearman, the owner of Daily Poppins, said: "We have recently seen this trend popping up on the web and we would be lying if we said we weren’t curious. The hack, first suggested by Mr Hinch, a household favourite on social media, advises that you simply place an oven rack on grass and leave it over night.
"We think that there are two elements that are making this trick viable. Grass is made up of a lot of water but notably phosphoric acid. We believe that the combination of a lengthy amount of time (overnight) and the diluted acid plays a part in this new trick spreading across the internet."
So there you go, a new savvy trick for getting your oven sparkling with minimal effort.
