A mum has thanked a Starbucks barista after they wrote a secret message on a cup for her teen daughter who they believed might have been in need of help.

Brandy Selim Roberson, a mum from Texas, shared a picture of the cup on Facebook. She said her 18-year-old daughter visited a Corpus Christi Starbucks last week when she was approached by a man who started talking to her.

The barista decided to discreetly take action by giving the teen “an extra hot chocolate someone forgot to pick up.”

However the barista actually used the cup to offer the teen help if she needed it. The message reads: “Are you okay? Do you want us to intervene? If you do, take the lid off the cup.”

Brandy’s daughter did not feel unsafe and she later told the barista she was okay. Brandy shared the story to express how “grateful” she is that people look out for others.

In her Facebook caption, she wrote: “My 18 year-old daughter was at Starbucks, alone, the other night. A man came up to her and started talking to her. A barista handed her “an extra hot chocolate someone forgot to pick up.” How grateful I am for people who look out for other people!

Side note: She felt safe and did not remove the lid, but let them know. She said the whole team was watching over her the rest of the time she was there.Thank you to the team at Starbucks on Staples and SPID in Corpus Christi."
