There's a brand new crime thriller starring the inimitable Jenna Coleman that has just landed - and fans have been taking drastic measures to make sure they can watch it.

Coleman, who stunned viewers with her roles in Wilderness and The Serpent, is no stranger to bringing murky characters to life.

The four-part drama follows Coleman as Detective Ember Manning as she investigates the disappearance of a teenage girl.

What is it?

The brand new series is called The Jetty and follows recently widowed Detective Ember Manning who is tasked with solving a case of arson when a fire destroys a property in an otherwise apparently-quaint Lancashire lake town.

Ultimately, it is linked to a missing person's case and there's also the arrival of a true crime podcaster and journalist (Weruche Opia) who is determined to dig deep and get to the truth.

The missing person's cold case is then linked to uncovering the salacious dynamic between a man in his twenties and two underage girls.

What follows is a thrilling and unexpected journey that addresses issues of gender, sexism, memory and consent.

Who is in it?

Alongside Coleman and Opia, more stars of the cast include Ruby Stokes as Hannah (Ember's daughter), Archie Renaux as Hitch (Ember's right hand man in the detective world), David Ajala as Casey (Ember's therapist), and Dominic Coleman as Brad (a suspect of the arson).

Reaction

Social media is aflame with people's hot takes about the latest unmissable thriller.

One person said: "On my way! to recommend the jetty to every person I speak to over the next week or so… welcome back Real Television."

Another said: "I am loving #thejetty jenna as ember manning is brilliant, I'm loving the twists and the wee connections, currently on ep3 (worth the binge watch)."

A third simply chimed: "The Jetty is amazing."

Journalist Abby Robinson noted the themes of consent for Radio Times, writing: "Enter The Jetty, a four-part BBC drama about one northern English town's own post-Me Too reckoning."

She continued: "As Ember sets about trying to establish how the three separate cases are linked, she's forced to reevaluate her own life, particularly her relationship with her late husband, who was also old enough to have known better when he first laid eyes on her."

While fans outside of the UK have been taking dramatic measures to make sure they can watch the series, with one admitting: "Just bought a vpn to watch the jetty."

How to watch

The first episode airs tonight (15 July) on BBC One at 9pm, but for those who can't wait that long - or will simply need to devour the following episodes, they have already been added to BBC iPlayer in advance.

Happy watching!
