Viewers are completely obsessed with the Hulu series The Secret Lives of Mormons, and are learning more and more about the religion as the days go on.

The eight episode series premiered on 6 September and has people totally gagged.

The hotly anticipated programme follows the lives of several Mormon wives who all enjoy lives as social media influencers.

One cast member, TikTok star Taylor Frankie Paul, caught the attention of viewers when she admitted that she and her husband had participated in 'soft swinging'.

People were similarly stunned after scenes revealed that another, Whitney Leavitt, admitted she and her pals inhale laughing gas (nitrous oxide) before getting botox.

Whitney said: "It's a party," Leavitt said while giggling. When producers asked her if the group 'comes for the botox or the laughing gas,' Leavitt answered: "For both."

Off the back of that, people were interested in the rules and regulations of the Mormon religion.

As per Purpose in Christ, here's the non-exhaustive list of things Mormons can't do.

No sex before marriage and be faithful

Latter-day saints believe family is integral to the plan of God - so jeopardising that is unacceptable. The 10 commandments in the Bible says, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”

No substances

The belief is that being under the influence can lead to bad decisions and this includes drugs and alcohol.

Down with dishonesty

Mormons have to respect Christ’s Bible commandment that being honest with other people is crucial. The 10 commandments say not to '…bear false witness.'

Donate to charity

Mormon's have to donate 10% of their income to charity as well as the building up of the kingdom of God. Holding the belief that God is the Creator of the world, they respect the law of the tithe to show their trust in God.

Because of the church’s almost complete lay ministry, the percentage donated is only spent for good and does not attribute to the earnings of the pastor.

No pornography

Advert

Mormons are taught to believe that it’s detrimental to women to see them as objects, and pornography tempts the viewer to commit sin.

The 10 commandments say 'thou shalt not covet.'

No same-sex relationships

Mormons believe that marriage is ordained between a man and a woman.

Though the Purpose in Christ website states: "We have great love and respect for ALL people–including gays and lesbians. There are many gay members of the church who are very faithful people and are in full fellowship. They are welcome to come to church and participate in the church, and we love them just as we would anyone else. We also believe the Bible’s teachings that romantic relationships are ordained by God to be between man and woman."

Sundays are for the Lord

The 10 commandments from the Bible includes the commandment: "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.” Sunday's are for studying the word of God as well as a time for worship.

No foul language

No cursing, no f-words, nothing. Mormons keep their language clean and respectful. 'Thou shalt not take the Lord’s name in vain,' after all.

No vices

From cigarettes to coffee, tea and tobacco, they believe life is a gift from God and say they do their best to keep their bodies healthy and clean.

No abortion

As members of the church, abortion is strongly opposed unless under extreme instances of danger to the mother’s life, incest, and rape.

Gambling

As you can imagine, this is a no as well. Members of the church don’t bet money on games of chance, or play the lottery.
