Brace yourselves telly fans as there’s a saucy new psychological thriller series starting tonight - and it looks like it won’t be for the faint-hearted.

Watch the trailer here:

Billed by Channel 4 as a ‘scintillating drama’, The Couple Next Door is a brand new series following a young couple after they move to the suburbs and instantly strike up a friendship with their new neighbours.

However, they soon start to wonder if their new pals are a bit too friendly... Yep, it’s a thriller about a bunch of swingers.

“The Couple Next Door is a deliciously dark, psychological drama, exploring the claustrophobia of suburbia and the fallout of chasing your deepest desires,” Channel 4 says.

“Directed by Dries Vos (Suspect, Professor T) and written by David Allison (Bedlam, Marcella) the six-part series is an addictive, emotional roller coaster and looks at how we never know what goes on behind closed doors.”

The series starts tonight.
Channel 4

The six-part series – which stars Eleanor Tomlinson, Sam Heughan, Alfred Enoch, Hugh Dennis and Jessica De Gouw – is set to have viewers hooked after leaving the critics all hot under the collar, with the Guardian calling it a ‘juicy, farcical thriller to have some fun with’, while the Radio Times warns it’s an ‘incredibly moreish series that will keep you coming back for more’.

It even features Hugh Dennis (that’s the dad from Outnumbered, obvs) as you’ve never seen him before – specifically, as a creepy neighbour who loves spying on one of the neighbours from his study.

Heughan, who plays ‘alpha traffic cop’ Danny – the husband of ‘glamorous yoga instructor Becka (De Gouw) - told ICYMI that The Couple Next Door is a ‘very sexy’ show that people may even find ‘disgusting’.

It is a 'deliciously dark, psychological drama'.
Channel 4

“It is sexy, it is dark, it’s a thriller, there’s relationships, so it’s kind of everything in one,” he explained, saying the series serves as a ‘comment about suburbia’ and how it can ‘all come crashing down very, very easily’.

Heughan continued: “I think the show is constantly turned on his head. That’s what I loved about it, from the beginning is this kind of weirdness.

“It’s a stylised show, but it’s very sexy, very dark.

“And I think people will be disgusted or excited. Everyone’s going to be on different sides on this.”

The Couple Next Door premieres at 9pm on Channel 4 on Monday 27 November.
