A Married At First Sight UK groom has divided fans already after pulling a prank on his bride-to-be just before they said ‘I do’ at the altar.

Reality TV fans have had today’s date circled on their calendar for some time because, if you didn’t know already, the ninth series of Married At First Sight UK (MAFS UK) kicks off tonight.

On Monday (September 16), E4 viewers will become acquainted with a fresh cohort of hopefuls looking for love and willing to say ‘I do’ to a complete stranger.

After getting hitched, the pairs have just a matter of weeks to get to know each other, cohabitate and figure out whether they’re going to stay married or ditch them by the time Decision Day rolls around.

Despite MAFS UK season nine premiering on TV later today, the show has already caused chaos among fans on social media.

In a clip shared last month, Geordie Kieran, 28, was seen waiting at the alter for his future bride, Kristina, 31.

In an attempt to lighten the mood and banish the blues, the mechanic shoved a set of false teeth into his mouth - making him look as if he practised poor dental hygiene.

As the bridal party filtered into the church, several looked on at Kieran’s prank in disgust as he held his finger to his mouth as if requesting the audience stay hush on the trick.

Eventually, Kristina, a dog walker from East Sussex, made her way into the church and was greeted by a smile from her hubby-to-be.

“These teeth. What the f**k?,” she lamented after Kieran asked what her name was before tying the knot.

After watching the cruel clip ahead of tonight’s episode, one TikTok user wrote: “No. A wedding is not the time to play like this!”

“Dude taking a big risk especially in an arranged marriage,” said someone else.

A third typed: “That would shock any girl even if she is for u.”

However, not everyone agreed the prank was ‘cheap’, with another viewer saying: “Everyone in these comments needs to lighten up lol, they’re two complete strangers at least he’s trying to do something to make it less awkward.”

One viewer claimed the pair could 'laugh' about the prank 'forever' if the relationship worked out (Channel 4)

“Unpopular opinion here but I love this,” echoed a second. “It’s something they’ll laugh about forever if they make it…”

Interestingly Kieran claimed his fake teeth were a way to find out whether his future Mrs could be up for a little ‘fun’.

“I think the teeth could make us look a little bit immature,” he confessed in a piece-to-camera. “I'm a little bit nervous to see how it goes.

"This could really end up bad. I just want to know if this girl's fun."

To find out what happens to Kieran and Kristina after the wild prank, tune into Married At First Sight UK every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9pm on E4.
