Margot Robbie once lifted the lid on why she ‘regretted’ filming one particular scene with Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.

The year is 2013: Game of Thrones’ Red Wedding aired, Beyoncé reunited Destiny’s Child at the Super Bowl, and Miley Cyrus did that iconic MTV VMA performance.

As well as Breaking Bad ending and David Beckham retiring from football, 2013 saw the release of the five-time Oscar-nominated movie, The Wolf of Wall Street.

Based on the 2007 memoir of former stockbroker Jordan Belfort, the black comedy film saw Robbie, now 35, taking on the role of Belfort's (DiCaprio) second wife, Dr Nadine Macaluso, whose name was changed to Naomi Lapaglia.

The role acted as a catalyst for the four-time Golden Globe winner to break through into the film industry, eventually helping her score leading roles in Babylon, Barbie, and I, Tonya.

But it appeared the star's time working on the Scorsese epic was no walk in the park.

In an interview with the Daily Beast in 2014, the mother-of-one admitted she’d injured herself during a sex scene, which was conducted atop some fake cash.

Robbie told the outlet that she’d received a ‘million paper cuts’ from the moment.

She also confessed that having simulated intercourse over some faux dollar bills is not as ‘glamorous’ as it may sound.

“If anyone is ever planning on having sex on top of a pile of cash: don't.”

The Amsterdam star also said that the crew working on the crime classic were ‘shocked’ to see her back in the aftermath, remarking that it looked as if she had been ‘whipped a million times’.

She added that it probably would’ve been ‘safer’ to use real money during the memorable movie scene instead.

Last year, Robbie spoke at length about another scene in the infamous flick on an episode of Ben Makiewicz’s Turner Classic Movies podcast, Talking Pictures.

The moment in question was when her character punishes her husband for cheating by not wearing any underwear around the house, though Macaluso has since refuted the claims that this ever happened.

In the interview, Robbie explained that the legendary director told her she could wear a ‘robe’ if she wasn’t comfortable filming with her on-screen counterpart.

“But that’s not what she would do in that scene,” she said.

“Despite being just 22 at the time, she went ahead with the choice to be nude, and admitted she needed 'a couple shots of tequila' before the scene as she felt 'very nervous'.

Robbie added: “The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked - that’s the card she’s playing right now.”

After The Wolf of Wall Street catapulted her to fame, Robbie had a tough time in the media.

“Something was happening in those early stages and it was all pretty awful,” the Suicide Squad star told Variety.

“I remember saying to my mum, ‘I don’t think I want to do this.’ And she just looked at me, completely straight-faced, and was like, ‘Darling, I think it’s too late not to.’ That’s when I realised the only way was forward.”

Luckily, Robbie has continued acting, with her latest effort, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, still available to watch in cinemas.
