MAFS UK star Lacey issues statement defending her mum after behaviour in last night’s episode shocked viewers

Married At First Sight UK viewers have a fresh update on fajita-gate, which saw Nathan’s mother-in-law cry over her choice of food.

Last night (September 3), Channel 4 viewers witnessed a painfully awkward 'meet the family' segment which saw Lacey Martin’s mum visit the pair at Nathan’s home.

If you didn’t know, 24-year-old engineer Nathan has been paired with is 27-year-old office manager wife, Lacey and was met with a challenging evening: he was asked to help prepare chicken, even though he’s vegetarian.

Lacey's mum was cooking the pair chicken fajitas when she asked Nathan to chop up the meat, he politely declined, explaining that he doesn’t eat meat and Lacey's mum shared she’d 'never met' one before that night.

But it was sat at the dinner table where the mum was dishing herself up some chicken where things went wrong.

Nathan joked that the food looked awful, which made Lacey’s mum cry.

Since then, fans have been divided about who was in the wrong.

Was it her mum, who chose to bring over chicken fajitas to a vegetarian’s home, where he was then excluded from eating the meal?

Or was it Nathan’s, who joked that it was a rubbish dinner?

According to Lacey, it was the show’s fault.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, the bride explained the situation.

“Hey everyone, wanted to clear a few things up,” she began.

“My mum did NOT know Nathan was vegetarian also she had no say in what we was eating, she was just told ur making fajitas!

“You need to remember it is edited for entertainment and to take it with a pinch of salt!”

She explained that her mum was only trying to scope out Nathan and whether or not he was genuinely trying to make the relationship work.

She added: “My mum just had by best interest and because Nathan said wow to my twin she was making sure Nathan’s heart was with me!”

Claiming that the show edited the scene in a certain way for ‘entertainment’ purposes, she continued: “Also what wasn’t shown is me Nathan mum Paige all cuddling, please just remember you see 10 mins!!”

On a side note, she joked that her mum is ‘menopausal’, which could be why she broke down in tears over Nathan making fun of said fajitas.

Last night after the episode aired, fans didn’t hold back about her tears at the table.

MAFS UK viewers hit back on X, writing: "For goodness sake you just cooked a meal for him which he can’t eat, you gave your honest opinion to Lacey about him whilst he was AT THE TABLE, he makes one joke and now you’re crying??"

"Imaging crying because a vegetarian told you they think chicken fajitas are disgusting, Lacey’s mum needs to grow a funny bone. How can you go through life that sensitive," another person quipped.
