Britain’s Got Talent has cancelled auditions with Simon Cowell following Liam Payne's sudden death.

The 31-year-old former One Direction star died yesterday (16 October) after falling from a third floor hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Payne rose to fame after appearing on the X Factor back in 2010 when the group was formed where they were mentored by Cowell.

Payne was joined by the likes of Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik.

Although the band finished in third place, they went on to become one of the best-selling boy groups of all time with their biggest hits including 'What Makes You Beautiful', 'Kiss You', 'Night Changes' and 'Best Song Ever'.

All in all, the band has sold more than 70 million records worldwide and they also have over 21 billion streams on streaming platforms.

Others accolades for One Direction include six Billboard Music Awards, seven Brit Awards, seven American Music Awards and a staggering 28 Teen Choice Awards.

The ITV show has since shared a statement on their official X account.

The statement, which was accompanied by a picture of Payne, reads: "We are heartbroken by the sad passing of Liam Payne.

"He was immensely talented and, as part of One Direction, Liam will leave a lasting legacy on the music industry and fans around the world.

"Our thoughts are with his friends, family and all who loved him."

And now, it's been confirmed that Britain's Got Talent has cancelled their auditions set to be filmed today due to Payne's sudden death.

Taking to Instagram earlier this morning, Applause Store, BGT's studio, shared: "Due to the tragic passing of Liam Payne, BGT has decided to postpone today's auditions in Blackpool.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

The BGT press team told Tyla: "Due to the tragic passing of Liam Payne, we have decided to postpone the Britain’s Got Talent auditions.

"Our thoughts are with Liam’s friends, family and all who loved him."

Officials have since released statements surrounding Payne's death detailing that 'the injuries he had suffered as a result of the fall proved to be fatal'.

Sky correspondent Daniel Henry has since shared some more of the details surrounding Payne's death.

He said: "All of these details - very, very distressing for the family and friends of Liam Payne, who will be waking up this morning in disbelief that someone that they loved now is no longer with us.

"The autopsy obviously has not been completed yet, so at this stage, we don't know what, if anything, was in his system.

"But as I say, the key thing here, just this loss of life; 31 years old, such a young age, and someone who is a father, leaving behind a young son."
