Viewers are calling for a third season of an Irish gritty drama – and it seems their wish could be granted soon.

After being hooked on the first two chapters of RTÉ's Charlie Cox-starring drama, fans of the show were left hanging when production company Bron Studios filed for bankruptcy.

Starring Game of Thrones actors Aidan Gillen and Ciarán Hinds as rival gang leaders Frank Kinsella and Eamon Cunningham, the Dublin-set series premiered in 2021 and aired a second season in 2023 in Ireland and 2024 in the UK.

Available to stream on Netflix and BBC iPlayer, Kin has left fans wondering whether it'll return for more episodes after the twists and turns of the bloody Kinsella-Cunningham feud.

As fans took to Twitter/X to say they need season 3 'yesterday', star Emmett J Scanlan, who portrays Jimmy Kinsella, has revealed there is a 'bidding war' at the moment to determine which platform is going to order the show's third season.

However, a third instalment hasn't been officially confirmed just yet, but it seems there's a real chance it won't be very long.

"I don't know if there's gonna be season 3. It hasn't been greenlit yet," Scanlan told Radio Times.

"There is a little bit of a – I don't know if I'm stepping out of line when I say this – maybe even a bidding war," he continued.

"But there is a lot of interest in it. I hope it comes back again. I would love to take on the role of Jimmy again. I'd love to."

Scanlan's positive comments about the future of Kin follow a previous chat with Radio Times in which the actor explained there were 'a lot of people who are interested in buying [the show]'.

"Who it's going to be and where it's going to land, I have no idea. I try to remain as positive as possible," he added.

"I love the show and am so proud to have been a part of it. If indeed we come back for a season 3 – and I know the numbers on BBC iPlayer were insane – I'll be there in a heartbeat.

"In less time than it takes a heart to beat, I'll be there, and I'm sure everybody else will be as well."

Created by Peter McKenna and Ciaran Donnelly, the series also stars Clare Dunne, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Sam Keeley, Yasmin Seky, Francis Magee, and Danielle Galligan.

Kin seasons 1-2 are available to stream on Netflix and BBC iPlayer.
