Kate Winslet makes surprising admission about what actually happened during infamous Titanic scene

Kate Winslet joked that Leonardo DiCaprio has probably 'got PTSD' from being asked about the Titanic scene

If you’re a die-hard fan of the most romantic film on earth, Titanic, there’s something actress Kate Winslet has let slip about the production that’ll blow your mind.

Was the door big enough to fit Jack Dawson, or not? That’s the question which has plagued the minds of everyone who’s ever watched the James Cameron blockbuster.

However, opinions have been divided.

Some think that there’s no way Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his lover, Rose DeWitt Bukater (Winslet) could have ever fit on that slab of wood due to it being prone to flip over into the icy Arctic sea.

But others think that there was more than enough room, and if they’d at least tried to steady it, they could lie down on it together.

But there’s something you probably didn’t know about that scene.

During a Q&A during a screening of her upcoming film, Lee, on September 23 in New York City, Winslet spilled the beans on that famous scene in the 1997 film.

Winslet, 48, was seen in the film to be in an ocean, but she shared that the water she filmed in wasn't anywhere near as deep as it looked on screen.

In fact, it was probably as deep as the shallow end of a swimming pool.

She explained that she was even able to hop off the door whilst filming so she could wade through the water and pop to the loo.

She shared that DiCaprio, 49, has probably ‘got PTSD’ from being asked about the door scene so many times.

To her, it’s an easy question with an anticlimactic answer. She said: "Well that was quite an awkward tank ... because to burst the bubble, it was waist height at that time.”

She said that it was actually filmed in an infinity tank.

Winslet explained: "So first of all, I was regularly like, 'Can I just go for a pee?' And then I get up, get off the door, walk to the edge of the tank, sort of 20 feet away and I literally have to fling my leg over and climb up and come and get back on the door again. It's terrible.

"Anyway, yeah. So it was waist-high. Leo, I'm afraid to say was kneeling down. I shouldn't be saying anyways, Jimmy Cameron's gonna be ringing me.”

If you’ve not watched Titanic, and I’m pretty sure that’s unlikely, the scene was an essential moment for fans.

The whole plot goes as follows... Rose boards the Titanic ship, known as an ‘unsinkable’ force in 1912, which was set to sail from Southampton, England to New York City, United States.

Rose was a wealthy woman, who was joined by her mother and her fiancé, Cal, whilst Jack won his ticket for a third class bed in the bottom of the ship after a gamble with his pals.

The artist, Jack, then met Rose after she tried to jump from the ship’s hull one night and they embark on a sneaky affair until April 15, when the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the ocean.

During that scene, Rose and Jack are stranded in the freezing water while people scream around them, until they come across a floating door.

Jack helps Rose onto it because, that’s our dreamy Jack, but when he tries to hop on too, it begins to sink.

So, he floats in front of her, whilst he holds her hand and they talk to each other so they don’t pass out and die from the cold.

Except, Rose nods off and Jack is a block of ice when she wakes up, thus leaving everyone in tears.

So there you have it folks, it clearly wasn't mean to be for our Jack.
