Harry Potter fans are just realising what Aunt Petunia is doing in kitchen scene

Despite the final of the eight magical movies hitting our screens over 13 years ago, fans are still noticing niche details and hidden gems within the Harry Potter film franchise.

Earlier this year, movie buffs were blown away after spotting a 'hidden theme' in the opening title of each Wizarding World blockbuster.

Weeks later, fans admitted they didn't realise that a much-loved This Morning star was also filmed in Fred and George's Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley.

And even self-professed 'Potterhead' Margot Robbie recently admitted she had no idea that her husband Tom Ackerley actually had a role in three of the movies until he told her about them.

Another recently-noticed easter egg also comes from the opening scenes of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and is a minor background detail that many have never noticed.

It's when Harry receives his first letter from Hogwarts, and just spots Aunt Petunia in the background.

Despite the majority never spotting it, this one eagle-eyed Harry Potter fanatic took to Reddit to share the hidden easter egg.

They wrote: "In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s (Sorcerer’s) Stone, Aunt Petunia is visible in the background of this scene dyeing Dudley’s old clothes grey for Harry’s uniform. This is only ever mentioned in the book."

In the scene, Mr Dursley skims through his post while Harry admires the Hogwarts envelope with his name on it.

But in the background, Petunia can be seen mixing a pile of clothes around in a very large pot.

Aunt Petunia was actually dyeing some of Dudley's old clothes to grey for Harry to wear.

This is because the Dursley's had originally planned on sending Harry to Stonewall High, which was regarded as less prestigious to Dudley's Smeltings Academy.

But, obviously, the letter from Hogwarts came through, and Harry was spared from attending the school he did not want to go to.

Many Harry Potter die-hards were shocked to discover the hidden easter egg despite watching the films countless times.

A lot of them took to the comment section of the Reddit post to discuss it.

One person said: "I always wondered what she was doing, I'd clearly forgotten that detail between reason the book and watching the film."

A second added: "The amount of times I have seen this movie is crazy, and I’ve read the book once, absolutely loved it, and yet I didn’t even notice this.

"That’s actually really cool!! Just wish they kept Peeves in the film!"

And a third said: ""Remember when the movies were this true to the books? Good times"

Others also pointed out that Aunt Petunia's work is actually mentioned in deleted scenes of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
