Lindsay Lohan confirms Freaky Friday 2 is in the works after Jamie Lee Curtis teased sequel

Lindsay Lohan confirms Freaky Friday 2 is in the works after Jamie Lee Curtis teased sequel

The teen Disney movie will see a reboot after 21 years

Attention, Freaky Friday fans!

An eagerly-anticipated sequel to the original 2003 Disney hit has FINALLY been confirmed by lead actor Lindsay Lohan after over two decades.

For hundreds of late nineties and noughties youngsters - including yours truly - this big-name pre-teen banger was a staple childhood movie.

It had everything you could possibly want from an iconic girly sleepover movie: a disobedient teen who's DESPERATE to escape from her demanding mother and become a rock star, a charming long-haired love interest (Chad Michael Murray) that mother dearest can't approve of, and a new father figure that the youngster wants nothing to do with.

I don't know about you, but that sounds like a Teen Choice Award recipe if you ask me.

But for those who haven't yet feasted their eyes on this legendary comedy, let's have a little reminder about what the first movie is about.

The mother-daughter duo accidentally switch lives in the 2003 hit.

Rebellious teen Anna (played by then child star Lindsay Lohan) is an aspiring musician who struggles at school thanks to her bully ex-BFF and bitter teachers, but her overly-controlling mother Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) fails to recognise her talent and believes she's acting out following the death of her father.

On top of that, Anna is unwilling to accept her new future father-in-law - whom her mother is soon set to wed - increasing the tension between the mother-daughter duo.

Their angsty relationship all comes to blow one fateful night, however, with the two being magically transported into one another's bodies.

With Tess forced to endure the daily hardships her daughter faces at school, and Anna recognising the stress that her mother is under with work and wedding planning, the duo finally over come their differences and switch back.

It really is one of the most feel-good, heartwarming stories that's guaranteed to make you wanna give your mum a ring and tell her how much you love her.

Anyway, after 21 years, a sequel has finally been confirmed by none other than Miss Lohan herself.

The Mean Girls star first mentioned a possible follow-up last year, inadvertently sending fans wild at the time.

But speaking on Sirius XM's Andy Cohen Live last night, the 37-year-old actor appeared to be confirming that both she and co-star Jamie, 65, will be starring in the reboot.

"I don't want to say too much," she claimed. "And we're both excited. I'm gonna speak for Jamie."

Opting to keep a lid on a potential release date, Lindsay coyly insisted: "I won't say that yet."

This isn't the first time that the twosome - who have remained close since the original movie was released - have teased a joint appearance in the sequel.

The Halloween star said that there was 'good talks' going on about a potential follow-up, which she was working hard to make a reality.

And last November - when the pair were reunited at a star-studded celebrity meet-up - Jamie shared a snap alongside Lindsay.

"YOU GREW UP and SO BEAUTIFULLY!" Jamie gushed in the caption at the time.

"Well, it's Friday, and the strike is over so hopefully, we can switch places again in the near future! @lindsaylohan."

Screaming, crying, throwing up. Bring it on!
