Lindsay Lohan appeared to have an enjoyable weekend as she celebrated her baby shower with her nearest and dearest.

The Mean Girls star announced she was expecting her first child with husband Bader Shammas last month, shocking many of her fans.

Lohan announced she had married Shammas last year after calling him her husband in a social media post.

Making the pregnancy announcement, the actor posted to Instagram a picture of some baby clothes covered with the words 'coming soon' and accompanied by the caption: "We are blessed and excited!"

Lohan was met with a huge wave of congratulations from fans as well as fellow celebrities as she announced the wonderful news.

Lindsay Lohan announced she was expecting her first child last month.

While thousands wrote a simple 'congratulations', others were a little more ecstatic with Lohan's surprising baby news.

In the build-up to welcome the little one, Lohan celebrated with a baby shower over this past weekend.

The actor shared a photo from the celebration to her Instagram stories on Sunday (16 April), as she wore a sleeveless orange outfit.

The picture saw the film star sat with mum Dina Lohan and sister Aliana Lohan, overlaying the snap with a caption saying: "Take the time to smile."

The baby shower appeared to have a rustic theme, with friends and family members sitting around a small wooden box containing white flowers and showcasing the words 'Oh baby'.

Of course, the guests enjoyed a bit of cake, because what is a party without a bit of cake.

Indications are that the baby shower took place in Dubai, where Lohan resides with her husband Shammas.

Others pictures from the celebration have surfaced online after they were uploaded to social media from other people in attendance.

In a picture shared by Aliana, guests can be seen enjoying a rather large pate of food, including hummus, baba ganoush and other salads.

Lohan initially shot to fame as a child film star in the 90s with The Parent Trap, but it was films that followed that really landed her feet in Hollywood.

Lohan would go on to star alongside recent Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis in 2003's Freaky Friday, with fans still waiting for that apparent sequel.

And of course, Mean Girls is one of Lohan's all-time classics, with it actually still getting referenced in Lohan's work to this day.
