As the winter nights draw in, there's nothing better than snuggling down on the sofa to watch a film with the family.

And with Christmas fast approaching - yes, we can't believe it either - what better way to get in the festive spirit than watching a Christmas film?

One film that is hitting our screens today (18 November) is festive-themed musical comedy Spirited. Watch the trailer below:

The film, starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, premiered in select theatres last week and is streaming on Apple TV+ now.

Spirited is a musical version of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol, but the story is told in a very different way.

For the first time, the classic Christmas tale is told from the perspective of the ghosts.

Sean Andres is the director of the film, known for the likes of other comedies such as Daddy's Home, Dumb and Dumber and That's My Boy.

Ferrell stars as the Ghost of Christmas Present, with Reynolds playing a cold-hearted man named Clint who really isn't in the Christmas spirit.

Along the way, they will be joined by ghosts played by Sunita Mani and Tracy Morgan, who get to work on the simulation for Clint to see his bad ways.

It's fair to say that Spirited has received mixed reviews since its release, with the film sitting at a 67 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

CNN's review reads: "Spirited tries turning A Christmas Carol on its head, and while it’s big and boisterous, the movie isn’t consistently irreverent enough to feel like much more than a streaming stocking stuffer."

And The Telegraph had similar thoughts: "Spirited never gets you to a place of soaraway joy, exactly, but it’s busy, silly and not a bad time."

As you'd expect with a release of a major film, the show's stars have been doing the media rounds to promote Spirited ahead of its release.

But an interview on ITV's This Morning involved more laughter which had presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby in stitches.

Ferrell was asked by Schofield what 'famous props' he had kept from film sets over the years, with the Elf actor confirming his 'most valuable' was his prosthetic testicles from Step Brothers.

On the show, he said: "The testicles I put on a drum set in the movie and I asked the prop guy, [can I keep them].

"I bring them out for dinner parties. I have a little special box to keep them inside."

Spirited is streaming on Apple TV now.
